Can anyone who has driven in both compare them for me? Basically I would like to know how they differ in comfort and holding ability. I have found the soft backs to be pretty good on both accounts, but would like to know how the hard backs compare.

Hi
My old 964 had soft back high bolster sports seats, they were very comfy and supportive.
I have hard back sports seats in my 993 yeah they look good but I find them uncomfortable, i recently made a slight adjustment to the lumber support which has helped.
The high bolster seats are a better bet IMHO

It all depends on your frame. Big guys don't fit well in hardbacks! My skinny son loves the way they hold you tight. I drove 400 miles and never had any issues with comfort with the hardbacks.
Honestly, hardbacks look sweet, but it comes down to your frame.

I've had both, and I would agree, it comes down to body type/size. I'm a skinny butt type but I have fairly wide lats, so the softback's could get a little tight for me on long trips across my middle back. I just drove 750 miles in hardback seats, and surprisingly, they were incredibly comfortable and seem to fit my frame like a custom-made wetsuit. No fatigue or muscle soreness at all, even after a 9 hour stint the first leg of the trip.

I'm a skinny guy, so I have no problem fitting into the hardbacks, but I do seem to notice that they offer very little lower back/lumbar support, so I find them uncomfortable after a few hours...

I owned the hardbacks and found them so-so on comfort but not very supportive. I'm under 160 lbs. That's why I'll never understand why people pay so much for them.

The best OEM seats are the ones from the RS America - same as the softback but cloth instead of leather. Talk about grippy seats!
The hardback seats are form over function, but you can paint the backs body color and that's probably why some people have gone gaga over them. To each his own.

Currently, I have soft back sports in cloth. They are quite comfortable and hold me in quite well - I am 6'1" and about 180 lbs with a somewhat athletic build (except for the bit of Molson muscle starting). I have seen a couple sets of hard backs for sale but at rather high prices. I was just curious if it's their looks and/or holding ability that justifies the cost, or what.
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll just stick with the soft backs

Spent about 4 hours today in my hardbacks (including a 1.5 hour stretch where I went about 1.5 miles........freeway-side brush fire). If I were driving the RSA, I would have been much more irritated after the fact.
