It all boils down to body type in the end.
The only real objective fact in all this is that the soft backs have more pronounced side bolsters.

I had a saddle-maker turn my "normal" comfort seats into softback sport a couple of weeks ago.

He used a set of knackered old 964 seats as a template, and modified my 993 seats accordingly.

Then he made a set of covers, exactly replicating the pattern and stitching of the 993 seats. Have a look at the process on his website:

Three weeks ago I took the car to Hockenhiem for a 2-day track course, with Porsche Sport Driving School. A good way to test my new seats, I thought.

Conclusion: They are brilliant! No sliding around, no need to use one's legs to hold oneself in place. And very comfortable during stretches on the Autobahn. I love them!
