Default Sunshade?

What sunshade do you guys use if your car is parked outside all day? Have you found one at Autozone or Advance Auto to fit the Porsche, or using something else?

Thanks,

Andy

I use the CoverCraft UVS100 in my 993. It's by far the best I have ever used, custom fit, accordion-style (not the flimsy roll-up), super high quality. I was so happy with it after a couple years of use in my 993, I bought one for my new Tundra truck. Here is the link, well worth the $50. CoverCraft link

Same here. It's the only way to go. It fits perfect-cut to go around the rear view mirro. Gaps are small. Not flimsy.

I use this. I believe the most effective is the one that is easy to use and you actually use it. It's always there and very convenience to use. Still on my first one, and it's 8 years.

fwiw, I used to use Covercraft but I switched to Heatshield. Much stronger material overall and just as tight a fit. They're primarily a defense contractor in Sunnyvale CA called Canvas Works and make sunshades for jets and helicopters. The "Heatshield" automobile side is an offshoot business.

I have the Heatshield, and its very effective when in place. However, it does not fold away. Its a giant stiff windshield size piece of material that you have to wrestle away from under the mirror and attempt to roll it up. Total pain in the ***. Particularly with someone else in the car. Perhaps its fine if you use it once in a while and park the car. I use it every day. Its going in the garbage.

I'm ordering something else.

That's too bad. Our experiences are radically different. I'm in sunny CA, too, and use it everyday. I have one for each car. It doesn't roll up since the material is much tougher. It folds together and into a small package. For me, very simple to operate even with two people in the car.

Yours folds? Mine is super thick and has a velcro strap to hold the roll together. The roll is about 8" in diameter at best when rolled. Maybe I got the industrial strength version or something. I had one for another car that folded up easily and stowed without trouble.

I use one of the twist up ones that came with 2 pieces. 1 piece almost fills the front windshield, so I can use the other for the back window if I want, or even wedge it in the side window (between armrest and top of door, I think). Folds up small enough to stuff under the rear of the passenger seat. Those accordion ones take up lots of space.

Yeah, it is super thick material. The manufacturer suggested to make the folds yourself, i.e. crease the shield into fold sections. It stills unfolds across the windshield okay, but you can fold it into a relatively small package and tie up with the nylon strap.

When it was new I'll admit it seemed a bit cumbersome because of the thick material. That thick material does keep the temps down, at least with what they claim in their aerospace applications.

That's the type I use. I just picked up a replacement one for my truck and what once came in one-piece now comes in two pieces. I actually like it better in two pieces...

Anyway, I'm all for the space that it saves. Twist-turn and wrap it up into a thin small cirlce.

+2 They work great and the springy frame will bend to fit snugly.

I have had something like the Covercraft unit that I bought from Performance Products many years ago. It is now on its 3rd 911. Works great, very durable. I just stick it behind the Valentine 1 which folds against the windshield. It also fits the 997, but not so tightly.

We've used Heatshields in all our vehicles for many years. Custom fit, durable, lightweight and effective.
