$685.11 for 4 Sumi HRTZ IIIs and installation. Wow!

I have just got a set of Hankook EVO 12, with softer rubber than the HTRZ III's. I'm excited to find out how they work. I will actually use them on the track next week end, since I bent two of my track wheels (with Toyo R888) on my last track day. It will be very interesting to see how cheap Hankooks perform compared to the R-compound R888's...
i use the v12 for AX and DE and really like them.
Not as much ultimate grip as NT01 / 888's but very good for street tires.
have fun

I have a set of Sumitomo HTRZ II, and they are absolutely crap. How can the III version be so vastly different, if we should believe the test referred to abaove? My HTRZ II's are dangerous in the wet, there is no grip at all. So buying cheep tires may end up being very expensive one day...
As for the mileage on the tires, this has a lot to do with the rubber hardness, and the HTRZ II's are harder than the HTRZ III's. So with softer rubber the III's have more grip than the II's, but also more wear. I have just got a set of Hankook EVO 12, with softer rubber than the HTRZ III's. Have two sets. 225/285 and 235/285.
Great on the street and actually not all that bad on the track, either. They get greasy towards the end of a session but wear is great, feedback is great and the price is right.
I don't see any reason to spend $1,200+ on street-only tires, frankly. Its not like they're doing much other than keeping your wheels off the pavement.
Save the money for a second set of wheels and R-comps.

I'ts not like we drive these cars on the street or highway like a bunch of old ladies going to the grocery store. At least I hope not.

I've always thought tires were important for any car. We don't choose them for the easy 99% of our driving, we choose them for the hardest 1%.

I bought these tires after reading many threads here espousing their virtues. The fact that they are amongst the top rated tire at Tire Rack and other sites, and were cheap to boot, sealed the deal for me.
I wouldn't buy a sub-standard tire just because it was inexpensive. I've seen lots of threads about how great this tire is, especially for the price. I haven't read much that was negative, so....

Thank you, almost all, for your input. Slow getting back as I'm in Kobe Japan on a layover. Pilot AS+ maybe the way I go on this. A little concerned about the noise complaint but like all in life. Its a give and take. All this kinda makes the Tire Rack reports creditable(?) I like getting the opinions from 993 users. Thanks again.

$685.11.
Thats how much I paid, all in, to have 4 new Sumitomo HRTZ III tires ($643.11) put on my car, including the install fee to mount and balance etc. ($92) and minus the Tire Rack rebate ($50).
Or, to put in another way, much less than I paid for 2 PS2's last year.
Woo hoo!
