Brad Penn oil
I have been runing red line oil in my 933 cab an my 964. I have been looking at Brad Penn oil has anyone had their catalytic converters not work well when useing this oil. I would like to put in their 20/50 oil in my cars.Vernon.

I have Brad Penn in both cars and no problems here so far. IMHO, unless you're racing, 20W50 seems a bit much. Previously, I was blending their 10W30 & 20W50 but Brad Penn now offers 15W40.

Summary, if using Mobil 1 0w40, it's probably not a bad idea to switch to Mobil 1 Truck and Diesel 5w40 or the new Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40, both of which are SL rated.
If there is no catalytic converter, Mobil 1 MX4t (4T Racing) 10w40. If using Mobil 1 15w50, loose the catalytic converter and consider using Mobil 1 V-Twin in it's place. Royal Purple Max Cycle also should be an acceptable alternative, sans cat.
If excluding M1 products, then Brad Penn 20w50 and Swepco 306 15w40 should be fine for cars even with catalytic converters.
How about that? With the Brad Penn, I've found that 6 months or 5,000 highway miles gets you right to 50% of the starting TBN for the 20w50 Brad Penn. I'd figure you could probably go a bit longer with the Swepco, but there really isn't much of a point to do so. With the motorcycle oils, figure probably closer to somewhere between 3 and 4k miles, as they have about 15% less starting TBN than the Brad Penn.

JMHO,....New cats run $2817, and replacing cams & rocker arms costs $2863 plus a few thousand dollars in labor. Its an easy decision for me,...
We have yet to replace any cat that quit working due to ZDDP contamination.

Again Thank You so much it was going to be a two hour drive to pick up the oil. I did not know that you could get it from Amazon so that really is nice to know. I will put in an order today for two cases of oil. In all the years that I have had these cars oil to me is everything. I put in new oil every three to four thousand miles an I have never had a motor go bad on me. An to your point that Cats are cheaper than valve jobs that is so true. Thank You all for your help. You people are killing me. I use Brad Penn 20-50 so it will clog my stock cat and I could "justify" an x-pipe.
According to old service records my car grew up on Kendall GT 20-50 back when it was new (noted as the oil used by the dealer) when I installed lifters and v/c gaskets recently there was no residue or burnt oil look on the heads like I have seen in some pics of other engines.
It makes 5 bar at 3000 rpm hot and uses virtually no oil @ 91000 miles.
Good enough for me.
