Do I have a G50/31?

The DMF in my C2 failed, I was stranded and it had to be towed. Anyway, engine and gearbox have been dropped pending replacemant of new DMF and clutch assembly. I took the parts to the shop and saw this worn out gearbox on the floor. Well, it's mine and does look very old from outside with rusty nuts/bolts. I took some pictures and have these questions.
1. Is this a G50/31? Can you tell simply from the appearance (not the engraved nos.) of the gearbox?
2. Without opening it up, is there any way I can tell whether the gears inside have been changed or not? I used to have a TT, the gears in the C2 are definitely taller, but it never occured to me that it could be something other than G50/20 or /21. AFAIK PO did not do anything to gearbox except putting on LWF (which I replaced).
3. Given the outside condition of the box, do I need to be concerned with the gears inside? It's a street car, I have not experienced any problem except that it's a bit difficult to change from 1st to 2nd when the engine is cold (maybe for the first 5 to 10 minutes). No problem when it has warmed up. The shop is going to change the transmission fluid.
Any thoughts?

Is there any particular reason you think you have a 993 RS transmission? I mean, I've never run the numbers on my gearbox either, but I would put the chances of there magically being /31 in my '96 C2 at somewhere between zero and zero, with the chance of this in a best case scenario being zero.

Sorry, was unable to upload the pictures. Any other ideas?

Those are the markings of a g50/31. The "2" after "31" represents LSD (which all g50/31s have). Seems your PO and I have similar ideas (see my sig).
Looks like the thing has been underwater though.......
Cheers,
Joe

Actually I had gone through most of your threads before posting. Any suggestions to my specific questions in the 1st post? Are you serious about the remarks on water damage? We have a very humid weather.

I'm not sure where the car has lived its life, but my guess is that it was driven on salty roads. I was joking about it being underwater - but I suppose this is possible.
To answer your other questions, since the car shifts fine, I'd simply change the flywheel (go back to a LWF) and fill with Mobil Delvac and drive it. The Delvac may help your cold shifting issues.
First gear is tall on a g50/31 so it's probable that the gears are stock g50/31. When get the car back together you can verify by comparing your rpm/speed in specific gears with the gearing charts posted numerous times by Bill Verberg.
Enjoy your g50/31!

Joe: With the taller first gear and the LWF on your car, is the throttle/clutch interplay a bit touchy, when the car starts moving?
