Exactly. And it's much easier to bill by-the-book on less intensive work. Work on 10 cars averaging 4 hours book time each when in reality you can beat it by 25%, or one top end that's 40 hours of hard, labor intensive activity? And as I mentioned above, there's always the oil leak or something that's the potential liability on the the back end.

Bottom line is that if the shop is working at full/near-full capacity, I think most mechanics, given the choice, would avoid working on engine internals.
