I am following the DIY brake handle project on p-car ( http://p-car.com/diy/handbrake/ ). I successfuly removed my old handle. Took a while, but I think I have the new alum handle installed. I have it clicking 5-6 times, and it "feels" right, but my Park Brake light will not come on, and I can't operate my cab top, since e-brake must be on.
Are you referring to this clip? I recall replacing this larger one, which held a large bolt in place and and a smaller one underneath. I think both were intact. Just curious how these parts could cause the brake light to not come on.
Brandon,
There is a spring steel tab at the rear of the ebrake handle. It trips the little switch that enables the cab top and the ebrake warning light.
Make sure the switch is in place and the spring steel tab is triggering it properly.
It looks like the spring steel tab is there in the 2nd pic...
Let me know!
Oh, and you might want to tighten the ebrake cable so that it takes about 3 clicks to pull tight.
Thanks Mark, and thanks to FD Motorsports for the good deal on the part
In this pic, I see two metal clips (the larger one and the smaller one I am pointing to w/ a pen). Which clip are you referring to? I can't see how either of these parts are contacting something else to trigger the brake light to come on. Please help.

Brandon,
Not a clip... sort of a curved metal tab... just above the pen in the pic.
This is what contacts the micro-switch.
What he said, upper one that is curved. That little clip (OK, not technically a clip) is very important, it's an actual electrical contact. If I remember right, you can't buy one if it is broken.
If that is OK, check the corresponding mating surface in the car. You may have moved it where it is not making contact while putting the new handle in.
Okay, thanks. Now I know which part you are referring to. So, is the cliip on the end of the ebrake supposed to bend and fit over the corresponding mating surface, or is it supposed to just contact it?

You don't want bend it... that tab is brittle and can break
Look at the rear where that tab is and you should find #3 in this diagram: http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/993/701-05.php
I am guessing this sort of dropped out of sight during the install... a small screw holds it in place.
If you need a pic I can get you one later today, just let me know.
Mother's Day today so I have a couple of rug rats to keep off of mom's back but I can get it done by early afternoon.
Mission accomplished! I loosened the screw on the electrical component and moved it forward so it would make contact w/ the metal spring. I think there was a gap and they weren't making contact.
Anyways, thanks for the great service after the sale Mark! see pics. I'm off for Daddy duty too!

FWIW: If anyone had the tab break off, it is "fixable." (The one I bought from LAPD had no tab but the price was good so I kept it) Send me a PM if you need to see how I resurrected it.
