Default Opinions on the 997 Light Weight 5-spoke Wheels?

Considering these and would like to know what those who have them think? Light, durable, etc?

Thanks!

Get these instead. They are durable per MMC staff.

I have seen them in flat black & they look really nice.

It would depend on the diameter, width and o/s

Looking at the 18" in 8 and 10 sizes. I'll make the offsets work.

I have had them on my car for over a year and like them. I prefer the 996
my02s 5 spokes (slightly lighter and don't require spacers) but much easier to find the carrera IIIs and they were priced right. They are light, approximately 21lbs front and 24lbs rear, and very durable. My car is lowered to RS specs and as recommended I added 8mm spacers up front and have no rubbing issues.

Them's good ones Ilko. Almost as good as MY02s . Seriously, I prefer the MY02, but these are much less expensive now and should work spectacularly well. The MY02s have gone up a lot from what they used to cost and these probably will as well.

+1, very similar to the 02s, I like the 5-spoke style.

I saw some in the classifieds for $900 recently. That's a great price, I think.

I was close to buying a take off set of these with brand new tires at a very reasonable price. However, i realized that the tire size with these wheels is not correct for the 993. The wheels will work as long as you run spacers on the front, but the tires that come with these wheels on the 997 will not work with our cars. Still, there are a lot of good deals out there on these wheels.

Yes, the tires are slightly larger but I never thought that would be a problem with enough clearance.

BufordTJ has them on his 993 and I think they look great. I actually like them more than the MY02s in looks.

and when you guys add spacers to get appropriate o/s are you also changing the studs?

JMO, but it's silly to buy wheels that need spacers

A 6mm spacer is perfectly safe with the stock studs. The rule of thumb is to have at least as much bolt tread depth as the diameter of the bolt, which the 6mm spacer provides. Anything larger and you will need longer studs.

Porsche and RUF have a long history of running spacers on their cars from the factory, I see nothing silly about it.
