Got my 993 back from indie for SAI port cleaning. No more CEL 4 now. My story...
Driving a 96 Chrysler Minivan loaner for 2 weeks from my Porsche indie has made me appreciate my 993 so much more! They're both 1996 model year vehicles, but they're so different. The loaner courtesy van they let me use had 155k miles on it. I never drove a Minivan in my home town before, just once on vacation in Florida and it was new and 10X nicer. I was so happy to have my 993 back yesterday.
It took so long because it turned out the manifold was shot, so it took a week to order it from wherever they did. It was supposed to be overnighted but after they ordered it they were told the bad news, it's not in stock. No worries, I had this minivan to use. Talk about crappy gas mileage, I think it was worse than the 993.
In any case, I was going to take silly pics of the taking off of one of the first mods I've ever done to my car, the piece of black gaffers tape over my CEL so I didn't have to see that damn thing every day. I will remove the tape tomorrow and will rejoice in the lack of that CEL on all the time. I couldn't stand that light on but I didn't want to pay the money to have the ports cleaned if it didn't really affect performance, which I don't feel it did.
There's nothing like a 911. I can't believe how amazing the car feels to me. The best investment I made in it is the 3 spoke wheel w/ leather airbag from a 2004 GT3.
That's the part I feel the most on the car and that steering wheel rocks. I also changed out the shifter back to the original mushroom shifter that came with the car so I'll be selling my perfect condition RS shifter very soon here. It's sitting on a shelf in my closet right now.
This is the shifter that came with my car...
After trying the MY02 shifter and the RS shifter, I'm back to square one with that. The stock mushroom shifter is a highly underrated item on these cars. They also replaced the spoiler wall on the car. Yes, I could have figured out how to do it, but it was easier to just have them do it while it was there. I mentioned to them that I'm fixing everything on the car as I may need to sell it this year. When I picked up the car, more than a few of the guys that worked there asked me how much I want for it and when I'm selling it. It made me want to keep it all that much more. It's like someone asking you "Hey buddy, any interest in selling me your first born?" Ok, not the same, but I never had any kids of my own.
I drove it a couple hundred miles in the last 2 days, visiting friends, working, etc. I can't get enough of it. I was even inspired enough to post another "MD/DC/VA/PA/DE. Rennlist Meet and Drive" here as I will definitely be owning this car for a little while longer and want to socialize with other Porsche heads like myself. Might as well enjoy each day in it that I can. Like a Patek Phillippe watch, "You never really own a Patek Phillipe watch, you merely look after it for the next generation."
Whoever gets this car next will be happy with it. I asked my mechanic if it needs anything else, if it would get a good PPI blessing. He said "Yes, it's in great condition". That's always good to hear from someone that really knows your car. For now though, it's definitely not for sale! )
Cheers,
Steve R

If it were a true watch ad, the time would be 10 minutes till 2 or 10:10 ... it (almost) always is in those ads (art direction 101, see Patek Philippe ad above).
What did the SAI clean-out run you, Steve?

It was $750 plus $350 for the manifold.
I only needed a new manifold because the other one was destroyed.
Not sure if the trim rings were the Walrod ones... I got them through a group buy here years ago.

Steve has a thousand pics with him in his trademark "twist and show" arm placement; just look through the archives. In fact, "Steve" is really just a left arm, a Rolex and a 993
