Default Intro with pics

My first real post - I’ve been a member now for a couple of years but all the recent newb posts have shamed me out of my laziness. It is fantastic to see all the new owners choosing to join the Rennlist community. A quick word of thanks to all that contribute, Rennlist is a massive resource with real world useful information handed out by genuine enthusiasts.

I fell in love with a Rubystone Red 964RS way back when it was new and being road tested in a popular car magazine. This was when I started to seriously research the Porsche brand because I could not understand how a model with less equipment could sell for so much more money. A couple of years later I happened to park next to a Porsche GB demo car (had the license plate “911 HUL”), a blue 993 Turbo and it literally stopped me in my tracks. I was late for a meeting that day due to my standing around for an hour hoping the driver would appear. Alas they did not but I was hooked. After this I made my wife’s life hell with constant 993 hints, requests and demands. Luckily I chose the right model to fall for, something I realised the more I researched.

Fast forward a few more years and my wife finally agreed to consider my dream. I am only slightly ashamed to admit the persuasion methods I used over the decades were not very subtle, more akin to verbally beating her over the head rather than gentle discussions. But I had my opening and after topping up the savings with a bank loan (another two years of patience) I had my own Glacier White ’97 Carrera.

The PO is a retired gentleman who has owned several Porsches going back to the 60’s and still owns a 997 and 60’s 356. When he informed me that he’d painted his garage floor white to spot oil drops more easily I figured either he was meticulous or his cars were crap. Two years on I think the former, he handed me a very well kept car (with records back to day one) but with the small scars showing it was driven as intended over the past 50K. Since taking over custody I’ve fitted M030 springs/dampers (yep, Monroe...), RH3.6 with PS2, Floyd floor mats and completed a service (brake pads, brake fluid, clutch fluid, tranny oil, engine oil + filters, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, pollen filters). I enjoyed doing the work myself, something made massively easier using all of you for help along the way, thanks very much. I hope to be able to give a little to this forum now.

as Borat would say "very nice". Seriously, congrats. I'm not a big fan of wood interiors on 993s but on your car it looks very classy. I think it's the black with dark wood combo and not overdone.

Best wishes!

Not a big fan of the wood either, but otherwise gorgeous. The color combo, the wheels, etc. And if you ever get tired of the wood, that is a very easy fix to replace with standard black.

I, too, am a fan of both shades of white found on these cars! Congratulations!

Nice specimen and great story too!

I especially enjoyed your explanation of making your "...wife's life hell..." aka nagging her to no-end like a six year old. I've (we've) also successfully used that tactic

...and you definition of "persuasian"...

Overall, good impluse control on your part, your patience paid off
