Default Clutch Slipping?????

Car is a 96 C4. When I drive aggressively and shift say from 1st to 2nd when engaging 2nd my rpms stay up and the car doesn't feel like it is in gear, I'm assuming that is what a clutch slipping is??? Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I drive (normal) and not shift fast or take the rpm's too high it shifts fine. Are there any adjustments that can be made?? I don't recall there being any adjustments so if I must replace what are my options. I see alot of Sachs clutch kits fr about $500 but not including flywheel. Do I need a new flywheel?? Pelican has a kit for about $1100 that has everything down to a new slave cylinder but that may be too many parts. I don't track the car. I just want a factory feel replacement. If there is a clutch upgrade that will make driving pleasure and performance better for a small price increase let me know, (centerforce, etc). I'd like to get this done next week while I'm getting the Knoi FSD's installed, can't wait to get rid of the 14 year old Monroes!!!! Thanks in advance guys!!!!

I think the stock Sachs unit would be your best bet. You also have the option to go with the LWF (light weight flywheel) and there is a ton of threads on the pros and cons. I have got away (so far - 1000 miles) with reusing the original flywheel but it was in excellent condition at 70k. If your clutch has been slipping I would plan on getting a new one. You need a throw out bearing and a few other parts too when doing this job. Check out FD Motorsports clutch kit.

Yup, sounds like you're due. Get the OEM Sachs kit ...but beware of where you're buying from! I have heard of overseas knockoffs that look very good. My buddy who is an indy wrench discovered this when a client came in with his own Benz parts and everything "looked" ok until fitting them ...buy from a reputable vendor! Your flywheel should be fine if you're not feeling anything awry right now.

Set aside money for incidentals: expect it. Lots of threads on this, but consider replacing hard-to-reach items like the power steering belt, oil-pressure sender gasket, distributor belt, spark plugs, clutch slave, and check all gasket surfaces very well. Much easier/cheaper to do any maintenance at this juncture than later. You will not like the new amount, but your reward will be a very healthy 993 that will be ready to swallow up another 100K+ miles

+1 on what Edward said....The clutch replacement cost isn't bad...It's the additional (and prudent) "while I'm in there" costs that can make it quite painful in the short run, but a good long term investment if you plan to keep the car.

Good luck...
