Hi Dan,
The consensus (from what I gathered from the Racing/DE board) is the RA1s last longer. I face this exact decision, myself, and have decided to go RA1. But check first ...RA1s were slated for discontinue, and was kept from total death by virtue of popular (meaning spon$or types) demand. But not all sizes are available. So your decision may be based on what is available in your size. I've got 16s on the Trackmeister ...even more difficult.

I'm stickin' (pun intended) with the RA1's. I've really gotten some great life and my money's worth from them and will definitely order another set when these are gone. I didn't shave mine, have rotated them after every event and flipped them on the rims once. Not as noisy as the R888's, too.
