993 parking brake problem !
Hi, I went to change the rear 993 rotors and pads and even with the parking brake OFF I spent two hours hammering one rear rotor off. When it hit the ground it was followed by two broken rear brake pad springs. Upon closer inspection I see that the gizmo that is attached to the rear brake cable is flopping around. When I took the left rear rotor off no problems were found and the gizmo I just spoke off is solidly fixed nicely within the hub and all springs are in tact. Question, can I just use one rear parking brake in action and leave the broken right side parking pads off and nylon cable strap that flopping cable gizmo ? Even with new springs I can't put the new rotor back on the rigth rear with that floppy cable gizmo as it will constantly be grinding into the innards of the rotor !
Thanks,
Patrick

I found a broken parking brake retaining spring a few years back when I changed rear rotors - only 1 of the 2 springs was broken though.
I just buttoned it up and drove like that for weeks waiting for the parts to arrive.
I'd suggest taking one spring from the other side (so each side only has one) and fix it up like that until you get new retaining springs.

But did you cable gizmo flop around ? That is the peice that is hooked to the end of the cable and is supposed to not be flopping around as it grinds into the innards of the rotors and makes an annoying noise too.

I don't remember the 993 parking brake arrangement but I just took a 951 apart and the parking brake cable end has the leverage cable end wedge between the two brake shoes. The tension from the springs holding the shoes to backing plate keep the leverage part in place.

Thanks, I saw a wedge cut out section of the hub that i thought might be the area that holds the cable gizmo in place but I guess I am wrong. I will order the new springs and try anew. Thanks, Patrick
