Anyone replaced oil thermostat insert?
Help. I am gearing up to replace my thermostat insert.
Looked at PET and ordered the part 928 107 172 02 (part #10).
But what I got was this.
They don't seem to look the same.
Anyone here changed their insert, and verify that I got the correct part before I waste multiple quarts of new BradPenn taking mine apart to compare?
One more question, it seemed from the diagram, the insert is just a valve and is controlled by the two spring. Sooo....it would make sense to replace the spring too?
thanks,
anthony

Hi Anthony
I did mine a few years ago, it seemed to make a difference but not a common failure so I'm told.
Just a little tip, I used a bottle jack to 'gently' push it back into position......... I can almost hear Chris W grimacing at the idea of this!! However I was careful and just couldn't seem to get it in there without it.
Best of luck

I've taken them apart ... even by long distance . Easy to do!
The parts you have look to be correct - just confirm orientation when the circlip is carefully removed.
BTW, it is normally the springs that fail - not the 'check valve' bit.

To wrap this thread up. I replaced the thermostat. Wasn't that hard. Tricky part was putting everything back together into the thermostat. Below is the sequence of how things are assembled.
Car is running fine for the past week with the thermostat opening just above the second white line.
