Default C2 or C4 from the VIN?

Is it possible to tell if it is a C2 or C4 from just the vin?

How else can you tell the difference.

I am looking at a car long distance and the woman has no idea what it is...

964's are easy they say C2 or C4 on the deck lid...993's seem harder to tell.

Thanks !

C4's say Carrera 4 in silver on the rear lid. They also have silver brake calipers. The only 993's with silver calipers. That's the easiest tell if the rear badges are missing. The shift **** shift pattern is also a brushed aluminum look as opposed to smooth and shiny, but those are frequently switched.

Those are the easiest to spot, there are other mechanical things to look at, but you have to know. She probably wouldn't know if she doesn't know if it is a C2 or 4. I don't think you can tell from the VIN, but not sure on that one.

I think the option code for AWD is M339.

My insurance company and my smoggers keep insisting that I have a C4 because that's what their reading of the VIN tells them. Wrong!

Thanks for the info, looking like its a C2. I did not know the C4 had a unique deck badge.

I'm a 964 guy...
