Default Tranny fluid change / metal shavings on drain plug.

So I drained the Tranny oil moments ago and was surprised with the amount of shavings on the drain plug's magnet.
I have the car for almost three years and never done the tranny oil change. I am at about 212,000 km. The old oil was not too dirty.
I suppose this is normal for wear? I have new crush washers but there were no washers used on both the filler and drain.

I wouldn't worry about that, just watch out for the big golden chunks that look like a rap stars teeth.

There won't usually be crush washers on the fill side but there should be on the drain side. Personally I use them o the fill side too to make it easier to remove the fill plug.

+1

and the metal is normal... especially if you are not sure how many miles since the oil has been changed. It does look like it has been a while

As Calvin said, no chunks is a good thing.

Mine looked like it was dipped in mud when I pulled it.

Guess I should have used the clutch when I took your car for a spin Hans.

No big pieces so fill her up and let's go driving!

Well if the oil wasn't too dirty, then it couldn't have been in there for all that many tens of thousands of kilometers. I would also assume that the drain plug would have been cleaned at every gear oil change.

That is a lot of shavings! My drain plug had practically nothing on it at the last change.

BTW, your drain plug threads look a little buggered up half way down. Does it screw in with your fingertips without binding? Even if it does, those threads will slowly damage the ones in the transmission casing.

The parts catalog doesn't show one on the filler plug but I installed one because it only makes sense. Also replace them at every change; they work and age harden with time.

Quite the display! That should be your new avatar.

FWIW, I change mine every year (Mobil1 75/90 Delvac (SHC) and have a minor amount of 'sludge' at the tip of the drain plug.
