Default Shipping more than one car?

Has anyone shipped more than one car on a reputable carrier (like Intercity)? We're relocating to Austin TX in a couple of months, and we have three cars here in Boston. I'll drive one, but the other two I'd prefer to ship. Curious if they give a discount on the second car since they don't have to go out of the way to get it or drop it anywhere else?

Probably ship my 993 and my wife's 06 CLK convertible, although it's tempting to drive the 993 down instead of my 03 C240 wagon. I can fit a couple of guitars in the wagon, though.

Vic, don't go! Or, at least, before you do, tell me if you have any upcoming gigs locally.

Sorry, can't help on shipping. But I assume you could negotiate with them.

I recently used Horseless Carriage (driver's name was Bob Horsey) and they did a great job. They were recommended by the guy I bought my car from, as he had used them quite a bit. However, I did find them to be not very customer friendly when I called for a quote and to make arrangements. Additionally, they have a clause giving them the right to offload the car, for up to 3 weeks if necessary, to get a full load. That was a deal-breaker for me, but again the seller had a relationship with them, so ultimately my car was the last one loaded and the first one off, never leaving the truck en route.

I had also called Intercity, and at least on the phone found them to be much more helpful and seemed interested in my business, unlike Horeseless Carriage. I would probably have used them if not for the seller's recommendation and influence in arranging acceptable (to me) logistics.

FWIW, I heard back ... Boston to Austin is $1445 for one car, including the fuel surcharge.

Ship two cars, $1284 apiece.

I'm sure I could save a little money elsewhere, but sometimes piece of mind is worth it.

Mike, the last Boston dates on tap for me are Sat. 4-24 at Johnny D's in Somerville, Fri. 5-7 at Harpers Ferry in Allston and Sat. 6-3 at the Beachcomber in Quincy. You'd better like the Grateful Dead, though, because that's all we play!

Vic, thanks! I think we'll try to make it to April or May show. And i do like Dead quite a lot, I even saw them live in Buffalo in 88.

We shipped three cars, (356, 993 and MINI) from Arkansas to California using DeMoise Trucking (http://www.demoise.com/About.html) and had no problems. Up to that point is was all Intercity, but this time Intercity couldn't pick up or deliver the cars to us when we needed them too and a bunch of our 993 friends used Bill at De Moise so we gave them a call. Bill gave us a better price than Intercity did and they could pick up and deliver sooner so we went with them.

Matter of fact the only companies we use now for our cars are De Moise and Intercity. They are both great. Thinking back on it, we've only used De Moise for our last 4 shipments due to lower cost or ease of pick up and or delivery.Sometimes the 'big boys' are really busy and just can't do it as needed.
