CDR-220 vs Becker Grandprix?
#31
Yes, it fits perfectly. Becker sent me the SW Stereo 10 pin harness because I have the hi-fi upgrade. It plugged right in, but I did have to cut one wire (amp trigger) from the speaker harness and splice it to the power harness to make it work.

I ended up ordering the Grand Prix from Becker Autosound. They took my CDR220 as a trade in. (Turns out the cable that they sent me was bad and had damaged both of the CDR 220s that I had and one that they had in New Jersey, causing the whinning sound)
They told me that they have modified the Grand Prix tuner, am and fm, for US specs so the radio should work great on either band. They include a standard IPOD cable for free and offer a controller IPOD cable for an additional $150 charge (actually a Ferrari part number on the cable, thus the outrageous price). That will allow all ipod controls to be made through the head unit. As mentioned by several Rennlisters, the Bluetooth will only work with the cell phone. Should be here in a few days, we will see how it sounds. Thanks for all of the input.

I probably could have gotten a few dollars more but didn't want to hassle with ebay or craigslist. The Becker price was around $650 and the controller cable was another $150, not cheap and not state of the art, but I like the look and it does most everything that I need it to do. They did provide a discount if you are a member of PCA or other auto type clubs. Good luck, we will see how it works in about a week. Phil

I just acquired a 993 C4S with an Alpine head unit. I am wanting to switch out to a more OEM Becker unit. In talking to Becker, they offer the CDR-220 for $500 w/iPod connector (does not allow control of the iPod) or either the Indianapolis or Mexico (essentially the same since Indy does not have NAV function in the U.S.) w/iPod connector that DOES control the iPod through the unit for $800. Thanks to Palmfish for sharing photos and thoughts on these choices! Very helpful.....

So, I talked to Becker (very helpful) and ordered the Indianapolis today. There are very limited quantities available since Becker is no longer making these units. I got one of the last amber units and went with the Indy over the Mexico just for the name. Both have the same functions in the U.S. and are identical other than the NAV button (no function in the U.S.) They are not cheep but nothing Porsche ever is....
