Default Low oil consumption

I realize that normal oil consumption in the 993 has been posted as being between 600 and 1500 miles/quart. I drive my 1995 993 about 5K/year. Most of it is interstate driving at constant speed. I check the level with each gasoline fill. The oil is changed once/year. I have never had to top the oil between changes. Is this due to my low yearly mileage or frequent driving at constant RPM? Am I doing something right accidentally?

Maybe you're not driving it hard enough.

Give me your car for a few days and I'll fix that issue.

Seriously, how high do you rev that engine? How often do you drive it?

I would simply continue to enjoy driving the car and not worry about a thing.

I have the same issue of low oil consumption and it will burn less with my bleeding gaskets replaced with some Hagert Prescisions a couple weeks ago.

Is there a cure for the same issue with my rear tires consuming too much rubber? Its not like Im doing burnouts in an AWD vehicle but on the other hand, Im not what I could describe as a prissy driver.

This is great. Enjoy it however you want to (as long as you're driving it). If you want to run at a constant speed, do it. Its clearly not hurting your engine.

My car doesn't burn a lot of oil either, and I'm pretty heavy on the gas at times.

enjoy it.

The 95 rear alignment specs should be done using the 98 specs. It should correct some of the tire wear but it won't deter them from wearing twice as fast as the fronts.

Does oil consumption increase if the car is driven harder? i.e. higher revs?

FWIW,

At 99,967 miles 2 weeks ago, I drained 10.3 quarts of oil during my annual maintenance - and refilled 11.1 quarts to the top (warm). 0.8 quarts for 5129 miles of 30% highway, 70% around-town driving.

FWIW, my car just passed 100k miles a few months ago, gets driven hard in the canyons and sees track days periodically throughout the year and also does not consume any appreciable amount of oil between changes. I would say a typical oil change interval for me is about 2500-3000 miles, which usually includes a handful of track days. Consumption is low enough that I never need to add between changes, other than to replenish whatever I pull out for periodic oil samples. UOA results have been consistently good. That said, the top end work was done at about 86k.

mine uses a ridiculously low amt too, and I by no means drive it tenderly.. 100k on the clock, must be the M1 15w50 oil...

I've got 110K on the clock and the top end was done at 75K. My car doesn't burn a drop of oil. I've never added any in between changes. This is how it's supposed to be.

The type of driving defintely affects consumption.

Before I had the exhaust valve guides replaced the car went through a quart every 300 miles of real City driving, not the suburban driving many call City driving. But on road trips with constant freeway driving, it didn't consume a drop. Too soon to analyze consumption for post-engine work....
