I know I’ve got the digger out here on this thread!
Any chance there is a set spare after this batch was done a few years ago now? the alternative rings available are not nearly as good. Mark |

Reviving an old thread as after 4 years of having them sit in the sealed bag I am finally going to install the rings!
Any advice on adhesive now with the benefit of time and folks having installed these several years ago? I see some used putty, others emblem gel glue, others double-sided tape. Would love to know what has held well, what hasn't? Looking for something that is reversible (i.e. not permanent) and easy/not messy to apply. TIA! |
I used Elmer's kids glue (white stuff). I tried putty and the rings kept falling off. Double sided tape was too thick. I recently removed them and had no problem cleaning up the rings and the bezels.
If anyone wants a set I will be selling them. I just polished them and in like new condition. Since the glue takes time to set I did remove the gauges from the car and used tape to set them evenly. Also a good time to use your 3" DA polisher to clean up micro scratches in the plastic speedometer face. The others are glass so a razor blade removes any residue. |
I'll take the rings when you're ready.

@71-3.0-911 you can have them. Thanks for the clock spring a while back!

I'm glad this thread came back up as my set fell off, slowly, one by one (of course one stayed).
I tried: - putty & double stick foam tape (too thick and leaves a gap between ring and plastic, the putty smears too) - glue (wouldn't work as there are small gaps and the rings do not fit 100% flush) - double stick cellophane tape (pain in the butt to cut tiny strips and apply with forceps & works, but not for long) I've decided I'm "porsche-tarded" as I cannot even get these rings to stay on. :banghead: |
The elmer's kid glue worked well. Yes there are gaps and the glue filled them so the ring is solidly mounted to the bezel. What worked was positioning the ring so the gaps are on the bottom of the gauge vs. the top so they are hidden from view.

I had originally left a note way back in this thread. I used an amazing - and crazy easy product that is still holding strong all these years later. 3M 08069 2" x 12" Press-in-Place Emblem Adhesive. My bodyshop pointed me to this product.

Anyone else with a spare set? Interested. Thanks!.
