Instrument Trim Rings
Here is a new thread about the instrument trim rings --
The kit of five rings will be $70.00 plus shipping. Shipping to anywhere in the US should be $9.00 -- not sure what to do about paypal fees. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I've had request for anodizing -- I will have to have a few sets done in various colors to see how they look -- they will have to be polished before anodizing for best results. Anyhow, the list as of now is: nurburger 911ist corrdobrit abcar 95_993 simpsoap e3photo lpcarnut 993c4_toronto vmxwinn midnite993 airklwd mcipseric bugs michaelh993 pcarhombre shu sonny1 macca cdmdriver yellow rsr91128 smoke shldrdoc993 bufordtj black 993 randytrish vincer77 malan1 jhale ipapilot larpy tonypai Be sure to let me know if I have missed someone. UPDATE 20100406 Payment info Payment Instructions -- First, I want to thank all of you who are begging me to allow them to pay:) On the flip side, I very much prefer to have something to ship before receiving funds -- but there you go. Anyhow, payment can be paypal'd to cwalrod@sbcglobal.net *please* include your RL screen name in the notes section on Paypal so I know who you are:) The pricing breakdown: Rings $70.00 PP Fee $2.45 CONUS shipping $9.00 TTL $81.45 per ring set If you wish to pay by other means, no problem, just please back out the paypal fee. |

Same price to ship to Toronto (that's in Canada ;-)? I will update this thread about shipping costs to Canada. Also, for those of you who have ordered multiple sets, CONUS shipping will still be $9.00 -- no need to add additional shipping for multiple sets. Thanks |

Can't wait....I've been itchin' to dress up the interior for awhile. These will be a nice compliment to my new 3-spoke wheel. |
Lets talk about the best way to hold these rings on. How have they been attached in the past?
|
how about a light smear of light duty clear silicone on the back of the ring in a few spots. Something that can be rubbd of gently from the lens. Or, I wonder if rubber contact cement would work. That rubs off easy but I don't know the effect it would have on plastic.
|
I read somewhere about "modeling wax" that will not harm the bezel rings if one decides to remove the trim rings. I do not know exactly what modeling wax is or where to get it.
|

RE: attaching the rings.
3M trim adhesive? I was wondering the same thing. Mine should arrive on Friday! Yipee! |
I would not use glue. Get the mounting putty or reusable adhesive from like Staples. A bit tricky to apply but by the the time you mount the last ring you got the hang of it. The excess putty can be easily removed with the finger nails. I basically rolled up small strings of it and applied in four places. The rings have not come loose since. Good luck.

What's the name of the putty you used? Andy |
I used the Staples brand:

Hit these with some metal polish and they will shine up like jewels.

I received my beautiful rings today. I was nervous they might be too bling for me...I like understated. Then, I installed them and they are perfect. It really gives the instrument dials a brighter look, but not bling. Very "Machine!"
Chris, once again thank you for getting on this so fast and doing it so right.:burnout: Here are pictures. |
How did I know that you were going to be the first to post installed pics!?
It took all of 10 minutes to install these. I love how they work with the aluminum shifter & handbrake. Nice job Chris! http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC07697.jpg |

ditto on the Scotch exterior mounting tape, apology for the crappy rushed photo |
Why not the Scotch Poster tape. Appears to be removable. Was it not sticky enough?

Did anyone notice that the large face gauge rings seem too small for the guages? The small ones fit great.

Ok. Stupid question of the day: where does one put the tape. Around the outer edge of the ring, or on the bottom of the ring in contact with the glass? TIA
|
Too stupid a question for an answer?
|
I have mine for a long time, and I put it at the bottom edge, not the part contacting the glass. Cut a VERY thin strip. If you put it at the top, it will create a gap between the ring and the gauge.

Yup, nice job, look great with just the right amount of bling. The 3M tape worked great, BTW.

I wasn't too excited about the rings because I didn't think they would good with my plain dash. I finally installed them and I was very wrong. They look great. Staples carries the 3M Exterior Tape which worked well. If only someone around here would make a nice ebrake aluminum accent piece I'd be all set.
ps now I need a new ignition trim ring. |

My most useful contribution to the Rennlist community
After benefitting from tons of advice on this great site, I think I finally have new and useful piece of info to contribute.
My car was at the body shop when my rings arrived. I asked by body shop guy how to best affix the rings and he pulled out a new(ish) 3M product called: Press-In-Place Emblem Adhesive. It was amazing - he just rolled the rings on the adhesive and then affixed them in place. They are flush and strong. Totally flush since the adhesive is only a thin residue. Here is the link to the page on the 3M site: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...glP6P5N7LJ29bl Let me know how it works for you, |
decided not to put the rings on my car...anyone here interested? send me a PM.

The quantities I had made before (70 sets) allowed for some improved pricing. I'll try to get pricing down like before since the CAD models are already drawn and CNC programming already written. |

Double sided 3M foam tape worked great for me. They haven't shifted in over 15 months.
|
Used the clay , easy to work with , cheep and works!

Just mounted my trim rings. Thought I would share what I used. I used 3M clear mounting tape squares. I cut 2 squares into multiple 1/8" thick strips. I used about 4 strips on each ring. Seems to have exactly the right depth to stick securely and can be removed if wanted at a later date. Only had them on about a week, but so far so good.
|
Chris,
I would like one set please when they become available, thx -Zed |
Hello, are they available now? Thanks.
|
Add me to the next batch Chris. We'll worry about how to get them here later!
|
I am still interested in a set. Let me know the final costs and where to pay. Shipping to 60192.

Hi Chris, could you please let me know how much the rings would be to include shipping to the UK? I think these rings are far superior in looks compared to anything else I have seen, anywhere. I take it that they will fit a 964, as I have read that they are the same size? Thanks in advance. Brian.
|
Chris, am i still on your list? hopefully not too late... thanks
|
Chris, please add me to the list if possible? Thanks, Ross

I have received a first wave of rings but have had to reject them due to surface finish, too much tool chatter. They are being remade now.
|
Thx for the update. And for the quality eye.
|
Chris,
Can I get on the list? Thanks, Rick |
i cant wait to get em. Too bad about the finish on the first batch. Im looking forward to ordering. Likly going to get the bushings also. Let us know how the second batch turns out. Best of luck
|
What are you going to do with the rejects? I would be interested in a set if you are discarding.
|
Nothing like quality control.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop. |
Thanks for the update and quality standards!!
|
Some sets are complete but still need inspection and cleaning (water based cutting fluid). I'll keep you posted.
|
Any updates? Anxious.

is there any chance to buy a set and get it shipped to Italy?
they look beautiful! |
I might need to buy these
|
Hi Chris, I hope you are feeling a lot better after getting stoned? I would love a set of these rings, as long as they will fit my 964 (you may have seen my much earlier reply), I think I have read somewhere that they are the same sizes? Anyway assuming they are, please put my name down. They require shipping to UK. Cheers and regards. Brian.
|
I was just wondering of how the ring fit in the original-one.
Do you glue them to the oem? or just press them into place? In the eventuality I want to take them off, would the oem have any scratch or paint damage? just curious.... they look to beautifull not to fit!!! ciao |
Trim Rings
If its not too late to join the party, I would like a set.
|
Likewise.....please add me to the list

You must not be receiving my replies -- you are on the list, trust me. Just havent had a moment to update the list here on this (Renn)List :) Second wave of rings will be completed this weekend, which should cover all who have expressed interest. |
Try a dab of clear silicone around the ring. It does not take much at all to keep them in place.
|
Thx Chris. Great product!

Anyone feels that the two smaller rings are just slightly oversized compared to how the medium and bigger rings fits ? The two small rings does not fit right on the glass like the three bigger ones. |

any chance for a new production? or do you have a spare set? I'm interested. (PM sent) Thanks If enough of us, maybe Chris could arrange a new production. Alex |
I could use a set. Are they pretty easy to install?
|
If another batch is in the works, I'm in as well.
|
More are in process now. Might be a week or so if all goes well.

I was on the fence about getting these, went ahead and bought them. After they sat in the package for a few weeks I decided what the heck, got an hour or so to kill and put them on........Wow!! The pictures on this website definitely do not do them justice, really a classy addition w/o any hint of bling. Thanks Chris.
|
Will you have enough for another set, If I order one?
|
I'd like a set.
Please PM payment info. |

If these are still being produced, count me in for a set when the next batch comes around. How does ordering work? I skimmed through a few pages but just saw people posting "I'm in".
Thanks. |

NZ
Thanks Chris, Rings made it to New Zealand, they look great, now to fit them. I even enjoyed reading the Orange County Register page they were wrapped in
|
Anyone who installed with blue tac, did you have residue/overflow? I used what I thought would be too small of an amount and still got some overflow in some places. I figured I'd let them sit for a couple days, pick at them carefully to get the big clumps and then rub everything down with IPA to get the sticky residue off.
|
Please include me in your next batch. Thank you.

since I have the white face dials with the chrome inner rings on the "new" C2S it may be time to sell the two sets of original HOLGER rings I have laying around - or christmas tree decorations - I have a hard time parting with stuff.......
|
