Default door trigger

anyone ever have the outer door trigger just go dead? It doesn't feel like it's connected to anything. The inner still works fine.

Good luck! I just fixed this on my 968, broke it and am about to fix it again. It's easy, just hard to access and a pain.

does your outer trigger just feel dead? It goes in but doesn't connect w/ anything. Did the plastic piece geolab mentioned break?

It looks like the whole latch has to be purchased as a unit

Happened to me recently after a rain then freezing. Cleared up when it warmed up, but not completely.

good you posted the picture,
it is number 17 that is the culprit, check the plastic hammer inside

ps: and definitely lube the handle trigger every once in a while.
the air that hits the lever while at speed dries it like ski bindings on a roof mount

Actually that's a little different than the 968. The piece that broke on mine (twice) is not on the 993.

#17 is on the door post, that isn't the issue w/ mine. On mine the outer trigger isn't connecting w/ anything, it's dead

The outer trigger is like a gun trigger, it only activates a needle rod. It is not connected to anything in the door.
As I said in the other post, this rod pushes a plate, and pushing this plate opens the door.
the wind while driving dries the outer trigger, so
open the door from inside
make sure to twist manually the door lock - latch anti clockwise to the max
spray WD-40 abundantly on the outer trigger, whilst activating it.
when it frees, now turn door latch clockwise simulating door lock, and activate the handle trigger several times.
and you should be ok.
If all becomes natural until this step, close the door, and open several times.
If the door trigger re-jams, its number 17.

Thanks once again! Your diagnosis was right on, I opened the door up cleaned and lubed the mechanism and all is well. Is there a trick to replace the anti-tamper cover?

insert, wiggle, swear, rotate a tad, wiggle, sigh, wiggle push, ahhhhhhhh finally.

proper orientation is key and not really obvious.

good luck

If you mean the black plastic keyhole plug, there is no trick, it is hooked to nothing, it simulates a key, just pull it out with a fingernail. I purchased 2 as spares 10 years ago, never used them.
If it is not the plastic plug you are pointing to, I am sorry I did not understand what anti-tamper cover refers to

cgfen certainly seems to have described the procedure,

it's a cover over the locking mechanism to prevent thieves from getting a jimmy bar on to it
