I think Ken asks the question because he (most likely) nor I have ever seen them put a quote in their adverts for a G50 6 sp. Just a guess...

Edit: I stand corrected, I just went to their website and found it there. Never saw it before.

I wonder if they can do it with "custom" gearing"? I doubt it...

First, what's the problem?

Second, a G50 ain't a 915. And I've done MANY (as in over 100) 915's that have been patch jobs over the years. Worthy of the POS 2.4 and 2.7L cars they were going into in the '80's and '90's? Probably. But I was selling the full job, R&R included, so if I had an unhappy customer they were dealing with me fixing it. Start to finish.

I just don't see production builder G50's. There aren't enough cores out there to pick this and that from to make a good "whole" from. So now you're dealing with how much is really replaced with new parts when the margin is that low. Just look at the labor component. They paying $10/hr? Do the math.

You don't have a $1.99 car. Deal with someone who knows what the hell is going on.

I completely agree with Ken. We rebuild a ton of these, and I can tell you that if it is done correctly you are looking at pricing with labor to rebuild your current gearbox of around $3,000 - $3,500 assuming that there is no ring and pinion damage.

We actually do offer an exchange when we have them available, however, this is normally more, usually about $4250.00 plus a $1000 dollar core fee, which is refunded once we receive the your core and confirm the ring and pinion condition.

We warranty all work for 12 months, excepting abuse. Now I am not saying that we are the only company out here that can do this work, I do think that we are one of the best, however. I would certainly recommend checking around, and keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

Let me know if I can be of any help,

Ken and Eric......... I tend to agree with you just checking my options...my tranny which the car is new to me by the way isn't happy downshifting into 1st even at 5 miles an hour......slider is pushing the syncro into the dog's teeth..if you're fully stopped no problem .....seem's to me this should be an relative easy fix everything lse feels, act's and sounds fine........so I'm "testing" the waters and looking for input.....

I wouldn't shift into 1st gear while moving. These gearboxes don't like that even when brand new.

+1

You are local to many members is SoCal, I'd suggest creating an opportunity to meet and do a little car swapping to determine if your car is abnormal. Also, have you done a fluid change? I recently replaced my fluid (mobil 1 I think) with Swepco and am very happy - shifts much smoother now.

For the record, I can go back down to 1st in traffic or parking lot situations but it does not like it unless I double clutch.

Yeah, rolling 5mph into first is just not how (at least my 911's), 915's or G-50's like it. Tranny's are fine, just a bit mecanical sympathy required.

Just to clarify, Tranny's, not Trannies.

Like mentioned above, I would change fluid first before diving into the box.

I've found SWEPCO in a few of these Borg Warner syncro type gbx's and they generally dont like it like the Porsche syncro'd 915 does.

As we first found out the hard way in about 1988, when the first 3.2L G50 cars hit their first service interval? Oops!
