Cool. So many people have said he's the man so I will give him a try, and I'll also get him to change my squeaky front pads too.

One of the guy who Darin scheduled inbetween drove all the way from Newport Beach to have his front brake pads and rotors replaced. From what I see, Darin probably would prefer if you buy the part and bring in for him to do the install..... Unless others have experience asking him to order parts, I doubt he can get some of the 993 parts that day.

Your pads might be okay. The brakes on these cars do squeal. But if you do some really hard braking (go up into the mountains and toss the car around really hard), the squeal will go away.

I think it's putt-putt daily driving in city traffic that builds up dust and creates noise. Bed the brakes and keep them properly bedded, imho.

Lots of threads on this issue.

Default Why not....

let Otto install the M033 and .....struts/shocks. He has been your man for X time. Am I to understand that you trust strangers and cyber pals more than the guy you have built a personal relationship with?

Otto's is a top shop, in my opinion. He is going to wonder the next time the car comes in with a new suspension and front bushings.

If you need the puss alignment, take it to Darin. That is my $0.02.

fwiw, my guys (Jon, Dean, and Mark at 200 N. Motorworks) could have easily installed my suspension, too. But they also know Darin and the work he does. They told me to have Darin do the work since he can align and balance at the same time. I think that people worth their salt will have no problems sometimes recommending other specialists.

200 N Motorworks is an excellent shop and have more customers than they can handle. They have absolutely no qualms about me going to an equally quality oriented shop for certain specialty stuff. I'm sure Otto would feel the same.

I don't know what "the puss alignment" is. I'd love to know what it is. Do you need Kinematic Toe for it?

I've never been to Otto's. I called over there once, when I was interested in putting in a LWF/RS clutch. Otto's didn't believe in swapping the dual-mass flywheel for the lightweight one for some reason, and I didn't believe in taking my car to a mechanic that didn't want to do the work. That was my only experience with Otto's, so I don't know the shop well.

I know Otto is a good Porsche mechanic. Does his shop specialize in suspensions almost exclusively? I don't know.

West End Alignment, Darin's shop, does.

Is Otto an expert on alignments and does he do several alignment set-ups every day, or is he a jack-of-all-trades all-around Porsche guru? I don't know.

Darin does, and only does, suspension set-ups all day long.

Is Otto ever cited as being the Best Suspension Installer In Los Angeles over and over again? I don't know.

Darin is (see above posts).

Are you saying you'd rather take your car to a Porsche mechanic than to the Best Suspension Installer In Los Angeles who only does suspension set-ups, despite strong recommendations from folks who have the same car and the same suspensions and are very knowledgeable about the subject?

Finally, why would a mechanic care where I take my car for specialized work that is not his specialty? He's not knocking X percent off my bill for a "loyalty discount"; he's charging me the same as anyone else, despite our "relationship". Any mechanic who gets peeved over something like that sounds like the real "puss" to me.

And yes, 200 N. Motorworks ROCKS. If you're looking for some non-puss mechanics who know their job and do it at a fair price, these are the guys.

No need to baby-sit egos with these boys either. A good mechanic wants you to go to the best shops for the job.

Funny thing is when I called Mark at 200N. Motorworks and tried to make an appointment, he asked what it was I wanted. After hearing that I wanted HDs installed, Mark straight out told me that they can do the install but not the alignment and it's their shop's recommendation that customers don't drive long distance without correct geometry. When I said I would take the car to Darin, Mark just told me to go there because he would want Darin to install his suspension on his own car.....
