7 yrs in Maryland, never been pulled. Guess I've been lucky. I drive my car a lot, too. I see cops all the time and wonder when they're going to pull me but it never happened yet. Even got pulled over a few times for tickets but they never said anything about the front plate missing for some odd reason.
Had an 88 911 before this for 5 years - never been pulled in that one either for no tag.

imho, ProMount is a good tow eye plate product; maybe a bit pricey but strong and high quality. Super easy to remove and replace, etc.. Doesn't block any air flow, etc..http://stores.homestead.com/BallistaInc/Categories.bok

I got the same fix-it ticket. I measured the distance between the license plate mounting bracket holes and drilled holes in license plate to fit. Very simple on/off and CHP signed off. Removed plate, screw plugs, etc. and replaced bumper plugs. Good to go!

Yeah, you might enjoy my story - got pulled over for speeding a month or two ago - first time in over 10 years - reached into the glove box for the registration and instantly realized that's the worst possible place to keep the front plate.
He kind of chuckled when I nonchalantley put it on the dash and then gave me a warning on the plate (and a $400 ticket for 82mph).
Anyway, plate's on with standard hardware (square holes were already there) and I don't mind it as much as I thought I would.

Three Wheelin'
FWIW I bought one of these:
http://www.moweraxle.com/
It's quite well made and at $100 I thought the price was reasonable - no drilling required as it screws in the tow hook hole. I'm just keeping it in the garage for the day I get a fix it ticket so I can mount it temporarily and then be on my way.
No affiliation: blah, blah
