Default Silver 993 I am interested in buying but I am a 993 noob!

I saw this 1995 993 at a dealer, I think it might be one of those deals where the dealer doesn't know the real value of the car? I am gonna go check it out tomorrow. Let me know what you think. The dealer doesn't know much about these cars because when I asked him if the top end had been rebuilt he said "top end?". I did find out the the engine was dropped out 800 miles ago to be resealed. The car has about 83K miles on it. They want 27.5K + tax, lic It is a 2 owner car.

The pictures don't say much.

Maybe more helpful to say where it's from: http://car1one.com/

Now people can check the inventory and see the CarFax for it.

That place is one of those "fantasy car" places. I guess I'd just take a closer look. If I liked it, then do a ppi. These guys are great for a ppi and not very far away: http://www.200nmw.com/

p.s., the car is in Santa Monica, right? At least it came from the dealer I posted above. Are you wanting somebody here to look at it? Or are you coming down here yourself? Again, check the link above for the ppi. Plus they might even know the car.

It's priced right at what a '95 993 with 83K miles would go for, assuming it's not guzzling oil and doesn't need a lot of maintenance.

Early sport seats! Got a couple of blue ones sitting here next to me.........

As recommended above, if it's what you want, get someone who knows what the hell is going on with one of these to look it over.

Hey Noob. Welcome to the 993 forum. You definitely want to get a PPI done by a good indie shop in your area and get a Carfax report on the car to make sure there's nothing amiss. I just did a forum search for PPI in Santa Barbara and got these recommendations:

Haik's German Autohaus
310 E Cota Street
Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Phone: (805) 965-0975

also "Schneiders Autohouse" on De la Vina
Joe is the owner, and a very active member of the PCA in SB.

If these cars have been maintained, they can go way beyond 100K miles with no problems, if not, then it could cost you several thousand dollars to 'sort out' a car with a lot of deferred maintenance. It's an OBDI compliant '95 (rear baskethandle is the giveaway) so no Secondary Air Injection (SAI) problems when smogging the car in CA. The later cars are OBDII and can have problems with higher mileage. Also noticed the car is still riding at stock ride height which usually means the shocks/springs are stock and at this point the shocks are shot so figure new suspension cost plus install and alignment. Many of us have upgraded to M030 or M033 springs plus Bilstien HD's which are around $1100 on sale or really splurge and get a PSS10 Bilstien Adjustable Coilover system for $2200+. Lucky for you, now Koni is making FSD suspensions for the 993 with variable damping which are supposed to be the perfect street suspension with enough stiffness to be able to be driven on an occasional track day. Someone just posted they found these for $900 plus a set of M030 or M033 Springs for $300 and your set.
It's at a dealer so there's probably no service history except what you can get off of the Carfax report. Not great for you or re-sale when and if you sell it.

The pictures show 79K miles and change on the odometer, has the dealer put 4K miles on the car while it's been on the lot? That's not great news because they probably drove it like they stole it, but they should be able to tell you how much oil it consumed during that time, eh? A quart every 1500 to 2000 miles would be decent consumption and expected on a well maintained engine.

So, let's say you talk them down to $26K. Unless they have records showing a complete 60K service done with scheduled maintenance and oil changes completed since that time you will want a full service now.
PPI with compression and leak down - $300-500
90K service + plug wires = $1800-2000
Suspension (I'll go with Koni) $1200 plus install and allign $1100

so that's $4600-4900 and we're at $30K+. You can get a private party car with around 50K miles or less on it that's got records, maintenance up to date and decent mods like suspension, HID's, 18" wheels/tires, etc. in this price range so it's something to think about.

thanks for all the replys. Yes I would offer 26K if the car is well sorted. The shops I usually deal with are Schneider for my 911 and one in pasadena. I'll check out the one you recommend. I would greatly appreciate it if someone near santa monica could check it out for me it would save me a lot of trouble of trying to get down there. At least to let me know if it looks ok or not. PM me if that is ok with you and I will give you my phone number. I love this forum

Oh and I was mistaken it was 79K miles.

I don't have much to add to what's already been said other than it looks like it has a couple of nice features such as a nice leather interior with extra wide bolsters (I don't think that was standard), a trip computer (you can tell by the pick of the speedo), and premium stereo (also not standard). So it has potential. I agree to try to get them down to $25K, but I wonder why it had engine seal problems. That would be one of the things to have them focus on when they do the PPI.

Oops. The trip computer is shown on the Tac, not the speedo in the pic. And I'm pretty sure those wider seat bolsters were not standard.

I have a very nice 993 C2 that is track/street for sale. If you are interested here is some information about the car:
1997 993 C2: Black/Black
- oil is changed every 1000-2000 miles, it goes to the shop before every track day and pretty much after every track event to make sure everything is in proper running order. No expenses were spared in picking out the best parts for this car. The car just turned 60k miles.

Mods:
Euro GT3 Seats
Roll Bar
Schroth Red 6 Point Harnesses
AIM Data Acquisition System
Moton Clubsport Suspension
GT2 Rear Spoiler
RS Front Splitter
BBS LM wheels w/MPSCs
Stock 18inch Turbo Twists with Hoosiers
Fabspeed Supercup Mufflers
Fabspeed Cat bypass Pipes (several times this weekend I heard it was the best sounding 911 on the track)
LW Flywheel
RS Clutch

Asking 37,950 obo.

Sorry 37.500 is out of my price range, I will not be tracking it so I am not really interested in mods. Good luck though.

Default If you really want to know, have the car flat bedded down...

to Callas Rennsport in Torrance. Tony Callas is an expert in the 993 model. I know that Schneider is a good shop too...but I have know Tony for quite some time...Slapshot knows him too. Tony puts on 993 seminars from time to time.

The car will be a blast, assuming it checks out PPI and CarFax wise.

Yes I know Tony, his shop is superb. I would not be bringing it to Schneiders considering it is 100 miles from the dealer. They would never go for that.

I love the car. Finding a early 95 718 code with those options (manual trans w/LSD(probably shot but still nice to have), Sport Seats, OBC etc. etc.) is pretty rare from what I have seen. It say's records from day one so it should be easy to confirm service history.

You can nickel and dime all day long, but if it is the car you like and PPI is good I say go for it. I regret not holding out for a few of those options but unless you are looking to spend S type money they aren't exactly growing on tree's. One test drive and you'll be hooked.

Just my opinion which is worth exactly what you paid for it $0.00, BTW early 95's in Polar Silver with Black got all the "special" parts at the factory.

Good Luck with the search.
