Default Koni FSD Shock absorbers

http://www.namotorsports.net/detail....cd/KO2100.4112

From another forum I can accross this place sellign Koni FSD shocks for $913.50 for a 993.

No affiliation...... but for this price I would buy a set.

So I have a few questiosn.

1) What is FSD?
2) Has anyone done business with this company and can you recommend.
3) Has anyone installed Koni's (preferably FSD's) on their car and can you comment on the ride quality.

Thank you in advance

Serban

There is a recent thread on this with a lot of info. You should search FSD here.

I had them installed on our '03 BMW 330i. I also had them on my 08 GTI. On both cars I thought it was a spectacular system. Relatively compliant but firms up under aggressive driving. It is a set of lowered Eibach springs that are matched with a set of Koni shocks. I am not sure how many variations they have but I beleive they are "tuned" to work for each car's weight and type of car.

In summary though, I think they are a perfect comprimise for a daily driver that one wants to have lower and tighter than stock. People say it is not a track set up but I think it would be perfect for an occasional track day or DE. They are non adjustable but "self adjusting"

JPP thanks I found it.

ABCar thank you, that is exaclty what i am after, compliant street ride. I spend about 4 days per year on track so that is secondary to me.

Yes, please revive this thread when you get them installed and post a review. If I had to do it again, this is what I'd do.

There's an interesting comparison of the Koni FSD and Sport shocks on Tire rack: its for a BMW (IIRC),
but I think the principals would apply to our cars as well.

After reading the recent Rennlist post, I went ahead and placed an order from Paragon Motorsports, and received some notes on updated shipping from Jason. However since that time I surfed over to Carnewal.com, and noted that Gert is now offering the Koni shocks, along with a large array of other susupension goodies. I wote an email to Gert asking if he know what springs would be suitable for the Koni shocks, and received an interesting answer.

"Hi Gary,

The FSD was initially designed to work with all the RoW springs
(std/M030/M033) .

However, according to the specs, the FSD's didn't work with a spring that is
20mm lower, it doesn't work with RoW M030 or M033 springs.
Funny enough, a week or 2 ago, we pointed this out to Koni HQ in Holland
(just next to Belgium) and since then, the FSD's are on hold.
One of their sales guys told me that the front FSD's are back to the drawing
board due to this issue."

Sooo, it appears there may be a bit of a delay. Glad Gert's eagle eye caught the problem and notified
Koni.
I do hope none of Gert's friends or family were injured in the recent train wreck in Belgium.

That's all I know.

Gary

Keep us posted, if you get updates. I'd like to do the conversion in the spring.

You know, I thought this was refuted by Jason in that original thread here. I believe he said they had run a few sets on 993's with M033's and they performed perfectly and they (Koni) felt their design was within tolerance to work with the lowered height of the factory R.O.W. springs. Did I mis-read? What did Jason say about this?

Konis are nice (got them on my E30), but the KW coilovers are better - springs matched specifically to the shocks with adjustable compression and rebound dampening. When you consider you still have to buy springs with the Konis, the extra dollars spent on the KWs really don't amount to that much. See my KW group buy post further down the page

Cheers,
Joe

Koni HQ in Holland is going to send us a set of the updated FSD shocks so we can test them on a 993 .
It's great to see that they are interested in some feedback.
I'll keep you all posted.
