It's the latest "Bling", Very simply it's high tech plastic that is expensive to make. There's a reason Boeing adds weight by painting the new 787, that's to mask the fact that the surfaces are plastic.

I think when used as decoration, it's quite tacky. Inside, I'll just take everything slathered in black leather, please. If I have any CF, it will be painted or hidden from view, most likely.

CF is a wonderful structural tool that should be painted over IMO
