Definitely worth a shot, but I belive the fuel pump to be on the same circuit as the ECU just after the DME relay. It has been my understanding to listen to the fuel pump as it will tell you if your getting power to the ECU/DME

The only thing throwing me off is that his fuel pump is still running, which is on the same side of the DME relay as the air mass sensor.

Will a DME relay fail in a closed condition tripping up the airmass signal (due to continuity) while keeping the fuel pump running? Then work again for a few weeks 2 minutes later?

Hey, to all those who helped me through this I want to thank you from the bottom of the undercarriage of my 993. I have my car back and you were correct in your diagnosis , it was the DME . She runs like a top and I'm back to being the driving fool I am . Thanks again.....KC

Please clarify, if you don't mind: was the culprit the DME RELAY (cheap part), or the ENTIRE DME (aka Motronic - very expensive part). I am guessing you mean the DME RELAY.

Glad to hear this is solved, by the way.
