Where to buy a front windshield for a 993? Are there aftermarkets or only OEM? Many thanks in advance.

I just purchased one for my 964 - I called DC automotive - Nice Guys there -

The issue was with shipping they weren't comfortable shipping it to NY due to the potential for damage.

So they suggested using a local Glass shop, which I did -

I am not sure if there is aftermarket 993 windshields - Mine cost about 1100 (OEM) with the seals

From what I've read, only the factory Sigla glass is available. Last summer I was quoted just over 1K for replacement with new OEM seals. There is a lot of info in the archives.

The local glass shop quoted me a replacement last year but didn't say what make of glass ($1050 approx) IIRC the dealer wanted $1400 just for glass.

Wow, so that is the market price... pretty steep. The issue, is that my my seal has shrunk around the bottom right corner area. To replace the seal, my guy said that there is chance that the window might get cracked. Do you guys have any experience with this? At the moment, I will have water collecting in that area (from washing the car) as no drainage possibility. Is it worth it to change the windshield just to replace the seal? Is there a way to just change the seal with out taking out the windshield?

There is always the risk of breaking a windshield when removing it. I've done it twice but not with the Porsche

Has your guy done a 993 before? IIRC, the front is just like the back, using both an inner and outer seal with window inbetween. The outer seal on the front window should come off without removing the window.

I suppose so. So just to confirm, the outer seal can be replaced without taking out the windshield hence no risk of cracking it?

Gappy,

I had my windshield replace by Chris Palumbo in Millburn. He has a guy who comes in his shop to get the job done. Chris mentioned that the guy has a lot of experience with Porsche. If this is the case he should be able to be careful enough to the it out and in again with a low likelihood that it will brake. Just ask Chris. And say him hello from me ;-)

Jack, I already have spoken to Chris about this and he said that it was too risky. Will give him your regards next time I speak to him. Don't know what to do now re seals...
