Ok hopefully this will clear things up.

My Taillights all work except for the 3rd brake light.
I tested the third brake light straight to a battery and it works fine.
I tested the connectors on the outside of the windshield when you have the foot on the brake and it measures 4 Volts.
I tested the terminal on the inside of the car and with the foot on the brake it shows 10.5 Volts. (the tester unit was touching the inside terminal not wires)

So here are a couple pictures showing the items I was looking at.
The two wires on the inside of the car are both black so am I even looking at the right wires?

No not yet. I didnt have the time to try yet.
I might have to put it off for a while cause I have been pretty busy with work.

944/951 guy: did you end up getting this fixed?

I spent 2 hours with an Indy today (Mark from Performance Porsche - GREAT GUY), and we did all of the testing mentioned previously and the brake light checks out, as well as juice to the wires.

We went as far as adding more solder to the contact points on the inside, but still could not get the power to the light.

I'll be trying the "direct connect" method right now.

bypass the solder and run a wire through. I did this DIY a while back. I used a 9volt battery to check which lights were good and which were bad. I had about 4 that were bad, so I replaced those.

Oddly, with the brake depressed, I still measured voltage at the terminals that connect to the brake light, but it was only 6volts. I would have expected 0V if the circuit was broken. I never figured that one out, but in any event, I ran wires through the window bypassing the solder and all is now good.

incidentally, breaking through the solder was a PITA and took quite a bit longer than I thought it would. Partly because I was afraid of breaking the glass. once it was done, I put silicone over to seal it all back up.

PS, this thread is 3 years old...

I'm 4 hours into this project and am nearing my wits end. Perhaps not having the correct tools is what's driving me crazy, but I can't for the life of me get through the window sealant. So far I've used a red hot screw driver, a drill bit which I'm turning by hand, and various picks and sharp objects to whittle away at the kryptonite/window sealant.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

"PS, this thread is 3 years old"

I didn't want to be that guy who asks for help without searching first.

I'll post a new thread if this one doesnt produce any results.

I could really use some tips on how to get the wires through the window sealant. I'm afraid I'll break the glass if I dig away at it any harder than I already am.

From inside the car, I've managed to get a very thin screw driver to poke through so that its visible from the outside. However, it isn't anywhere big enough to fit a wire through (it has to being enough for two!!).

Halp!

I used a small screwdriver to get through the insulation and a then pair of surgical clamps to push/pull the wires through. The hardest part is fishing the wires through.

You might also try some of that green wire that they use to wrap flowers with to make bouquets, it is very stiff, thin and strong. I know they sell it at Michaels. Fish that through first, then make a loop and pull the electrical wire through with it.

the "three years old" was more in reference to "did you get this fixed"

I do applaud you for searching!

My third brake light has never worked. The light bar is good, and I have voltage on the solder bumps on the inside of the glass, under the seal. I need to run the bypass wires through the sealant.

When doing the wiring mod, is the inner seal (second photo) removed in order to push the new wires through the sealant? If so, how does one remove this seal without damaging it?

Same question for the outer seal... How do I pull it away without damaging it? The trailing edge of the seal seems to be glued to the glass.
