Default O/T Ocala Florida

well i finally get to make some biz trips to FL.
I've been wanting to go since FL seems to have even more cool P cars than CA does.
but, biz will take me to Ocala????????????????????

seems to be pretty central and away from the coastal $$$$$$$$$.

Is there anything i should look for while i'm there, (other than gater rasslin ).

thanks

Craig

Ocala actually has some of the biggest money in Florida. Billionaires with horse farms.... Drive around outside of the city and it's really nice.

Easy. There is nothing worth doing in Ocala. Period. Its one of those towns you drive through and don't even notice it except for a few horse farms, if thats your thing.... Actually all of Central Florida will be a gigantic bore for someone from San Diego....

Hmm, If this was football season you could shoot up SR 441 to Gainesville to watch the Gators, but since its not, perhaps you can do a day trip to Orlando, Cape Canaveral or Tampa?

Massive estates / horse farms are about all I recall, use to do some diving in the springs and sink holes not too far away.

IIRC, John Travolta lives in Ocala (Silver Springs).

The only time I've been to Ocala is when my son was raciing at the Ocala GranPrix track.

(I'll skip the part about making it from Ocala to the Orlando Airport in about an hour...)

My grandparents were born/raised/died in Ocala, mother was born & raised there. As kids we did all the Silver Springs/Weeki Wachee thing. Lots of springs for diving, much cave diving too. Haven't been there for 25 yrs though. As was said it's MAJOR horse country and lots of old money, no idea how big a Porsche contingent is there though.

As for Gator football games....good luck getting a ticket! Season tickets are passed down through generations, an aunt/uncle have had them for 30 yrs., even though they can't go to the games anymore they give them to family/friends.

I agree, if you're coming from SD there won't be a lot to interest you, except no earthquakes or mudslides.

If you've got wheels and will be there over a week-end, check out some of the auto flea markets at places like Lakeland, Zephyrhills, Webster, etc. They're incredible...with cars, parts, toys, antiques, auctions, etc. Zephyrhills even has old-time dirt-track racing. Also there's a huge antiques market down near Mt. Dora called Renniger's. I believe it's only held once a month, tho. Lot's of really interesting stuff, memorabilia, some auto related, too. No matter where you go, tho, get there early or you'll be hard-pressed to find a decent parking spot! Remember, this is the season and the traffic can be incredible.
