I eliminated the center bar, but kept the hoops. When I use the 993 for traveling I put some luggage on the RSD and if it slides forward there will be something there to protect my painted hardbacks.

I also put in long bolts at the bottoms of the hoops, chopped of the bolt heads and simply slide the hoops in and out when needed, so I don't have to unbolt them when I want them out. However, they are generally in.
