Default 996 MY02 Shifter for 993

My interior is really a black hole. I would like to get some factory aluminum interior parts to give it a better look.
I really like the 993 RS shifter. I don't like the prices I have been seeing...BIG $$$
Does the 996 MY02 shifter work in a 993? What has to be done to get installed properly if it is possible?

Thanks!

Happy Holidays!

the shift **** itself will fit. many have done it - but the shift boot (which is integral to the ****) is not a fit. So the boot has to be modified. people typically take a 993 boot and attach it to a 996 shift ****. a search should yield some pretty good photos of the process. its a nice looking mod when its done properly! good luck

What Stace said.

I bought my MY02 shifter from Gert at Carnewal and paid quite a bit for it with the exchange rate at the time. That's the quick and easy way to go.

There was a guy on eBay over in Europe that was selling 993 leather shift boots for a while at a good price. I think in the $35 range. I bought one just to have around in case I wanted to change shifters again. I could see if I could hunt down who it was if you're interested.

Anyway, I think it's one of the better looking shifters and definitely dressed up my cars interior. You can see in the second pic how they attach the new boot.

997 aluminum shifter fits as well. I have one in mine. Love the feel and I only paid $80 for it on ebay.

The RS part is not that expensive - likely less than you will end up paying for the 996 setup. Although the RS is plastic. I paid $175 NIB for my RS.

Where did you find the RS shifter? Do you think I could find another one?

Nope. Pull the old boot out, cut out the metal retainer ring, and glue the new boot to the retainer ring with some leather glue. Been great for about a year in the car. A little tight at first but it works well now, even better if I had a short throw shifter

Everything can be special ordered from Porsche! In my case a 996 Turbo shift **** customized for use in a 993 (see pic).

Merry Christmas everyone!
