OT: Does the company you work for (or own) shut down the Xmas Holiday?

Work for AT&T as a part of our national medical sales team. Working from home means I rarely take my month's worth of vacation, so I cram it all in at the end of the year. Was off the week of Thanksgiving, two weeks ago, and have the last two weeks off this year, took a week in July too. Can't complain.

Recently "retired" due to ongoing weak demand at my company (major medical imaging equipment supplier). That gives me lots of holiday time off - if I'm not searching for my next role. Although 24/25 and 31/1 are officially days off at my former company, it is also the end of the company's first quarter. Lots of sales activity gets bunched into the last 10 days of every quarter so working Christmas eve and late on New Year's Eve to handle customer finance needs was the normal.

I work for a large software company and we are closed January 4-8... forced vacation. It sucks because I would rather save my vacation until summer, but the company wants to reduce their vacation liability and pay out for all of the non-performing sales people who are going to get dumped in Q1... Happy to be a technical guy and not live quarter to quarter! (although in today's economy, everyone is fair game)
