Just pre-drove the first "loop" (Home Depot - Turner's Corner - Neel's Gap - Owltown Rd - Skeenah Gap Rd - Woody Gap - Stone Pile Gap) today to confirm a couple of things for Jim...Wow!...This is 76 miles of really nice driving...Add the Richard Russell "loop" and you'll definitely have earned your beer by the time you get to Helen.
Jim, you have a PM.

ENJOY... Wish I could be there!! I have Family in town and no street legal fun cars to drive. The Escalade has a bit too much body roll to take the mountain turns.

Is anyone besides me getting a little worried about the weather forecast? Looks like we might have either rain or a little snow on Thursday, but I'm a little further north than the run itself.
Let us know - I hope the weatherman cooperates!

WeatherUnderground is putting the 7:00 AM temperature in Dahlonega at 32 degrees with a 70% chance of precip at that hour. The high in Dahlonega will be 43 degrees at 1:00 PM with a 50% chance of precip.
Problem is, on Saturday when I ran the first loop of the route to check mileage, the temp was 44 degrees in Dahlonega but was only 35 degrees on both Neel's Gap and Woody Gap. A similar difference Thursday morning would put temps well below freezing at Neel's Gap, Woody Gap and most of the Richard Russell Scenic Highway.

Today would have been awesome. I can't do it tomorrow because I have to work. Sunday, though, looks best weatherwise, as Saturday looks like it will also be wet and cold (probably snow and ice on the road).

EDIT: Just remembered I cannot do Tuesday.
I can do any of the next six days....Tomorrow will probably be the best day of the week and WeatherUnderground is not showing rain on Wednesday until after NOON....We might be ablet to get a run in on Wednesday....
I'm concerned that temps won't get high enough on Saturday or Sunday to thaw and dry the roads if there's snow/ice on the gaps and Richard Russell on Thursday or Friday....Maybe I'm paranoid, but it only takes one spot where water has run across the road and frozen to send a car off.

I think we need to move it to tomorrow afternoon. Meet at Starbucks at 1pm then at Home depot at 2pm. If that is the call I will revise the first post by lunch today.
