Default identifying big reds ?

guys, if you have in your hands a pair of big reds and a pair of big blacks (928 GTS caliupers) or 968 M030/944 turbo calipers (also known as 928 S4 calipers), question is how do you tell which is which if they are all painted red ?

the big blacks and the 944 turbo calipers are a trainling mount as opposed to the leading mount that the 993tt big reds are but how can you tell this ?

would apprecaite any input here

thanks

the caliper expanding spring looks to be upside down as well

i thought it was supposed to be hinged at the lowermost connection point and tilt downwards when you remove/replace pads

I would say not, true big reds have a square raised lump on the outer edge next to the throat

the shorter 993/928S4 has a dimple there

also if you look at big reds, the raised cylindrical area just before you get to the bleed nipple. that is quite short and stubby

whereas on the M030, it appears longer in teh context of the whole caliper

I'm pretty certain those ones i posted are NOT BR

also used in leading configuration on the front of 993

they were used in trailing configuration on 944ts but are not the ones used on 944t though. The 944t used the smaller ones used on the f/r of 964 and the rear of 964/993. JAWS in post #2 has the small 944t calipers all the way to the left(they are also radial mounts not axial mounts as used on the 2 bigger calipers

These

are stock 993 or 928S4 front, maybe also 968cs but I'm not really familiar enough w/ 968 to say. The difference between 993 and 928S4 config is leading mount on 993 and trailing mount on 928S4.

they were also used on 944ts in trailing mount config but not on 944t.

944t used the smaller axial mount pictured on the right here, on the left is a big red(note the raised square lump next to the pad retaining clip), to mount a Big red on 964 or earlier cars a caliper adpater pictured to the far left is used.
