Question 996TT brakes on a 993 ?

Anybody know please if a set of 996 TT calipers (front ) with discs will fit straight on to a standard 96 993 with 18ins wheels ?? if I fit this bigger set up to the front and leave the rears standard am I asking for brake bias problems ?
thanks in advance

Hi

I am probably the wrong person to answer this, but seeing as no one else has I will give you my best guess. I looked into fitting the brakes from a 993 TT or WB 993 to my NB 993 and it was not straightforward at all. There are several technical issues apart from just the physical "will it bolt on". Plus the standard 993 brakes are really good so the consensus was "what is the point".

If the calipers from a 996TT are a straight bolt on to a NB 993 I will eat a hat.

All the best

Berni

I've seen GT3 setups used on 993 so I'm sure that 996tt can be adapted. In front the carriers can stay stock but in back caliper adapters are needed.

993tt or 993RS are a straight bolt on for any 993 using 17" or better wheels. I t doesn't get easier.

Bill,

Nice pictures and from Australia too - Like the OP

As for Monobloc design - I believe that i has to do with the metalurgy/construction and the fact that monobloc calipers suffer stress better..... BUt WWIK?

As for anything other than the **** factor - you would need to be using the brakes HARD in a NA car to need the upgrade.....JMHO

I have always heard people say this. And the brakes on 993s are fantastic, but they can easily be overworked. At my last DE, I wasn't able to do it, but my (very accomplished) instructor could get my brakes too hot before two laps were up. We were at www.tgprace.com which is a very slow track with a constant turns, but like I said within 2 laps I think he was getting some fade and there was definitely a strong pad smell in the car. Anyway, I figured at some point, I would go to RS brakes because of this - hopefully with a lighter than stock disk.

even 993RS brakes will wear out before you know it, I compared notes w/ a friend the other day, we are both getting ~ 20 +/- track days out of the front rotors. Replacements are currently ~ $420/ for a pair of front rotors

My Big Reds were a direct bolt on and I DIY'ed it with no other parts. I think they came off a wrecked C4S, but I thought they had the same brakes as the TT's.

Well, that pretty much says it all. Guys are running stock class 3.2 Carreras with tiny stock brakes @ 2800+ lbs and setting lap records. I ran the '92 C4 (@ 3300+ lbs w/ driver) with no external brake cooling for nearly 3 years of severe track duty with nothing more than good fluid and proper pads. Raced RSA #1 for almost 3 years @ 3000 lbs w/ driver and never came close to having a brake issue.
