Default PST 2 question

Hi,

I know I am in the 993 Forum (probably because I own one) but I have a 964 related issue with my PST 2. I am successfully using the tester since 2 years now on my 993 Turbo but today I tried to use it on a 964 C4. The problem is I cannot access the ABS ECU, there is no connection. I know the Bosch hammer has a special menu for the bleeding of the complex AWD mechanism of the 964 but could it be the PST 2 cannot be used on the 964 ? I tried 2 different 964 C4s and had the same issue.

Many thanks

Alain (looking for a 964C4 as a winter driver)

This _should_ work, however if you have a 964 this is "old" style round connector, right? Your 993 was an ODBII car and you are therefore using a different cable from the PCMCIA card, correct?

Thanks Reiner ! Yes, I use an adapter cable from the round plug to the OBDII of the PST2. I can connect to the DME, the airbag controller, HVAC and alarm system. But not to the ABS......

I don't think Euro spec 993 cars had OBD II. It wasn't mandated until 2001.

all 993 turbos are 88 pin OBD2, that includes RoW

all 964 n/a are OBD1

Alain, I am guessing that there is something missing from this adapter. When I first put my PST2 together I had the standard Bosch KTS500 cable and I could only read the ECU. It would fail to recognize all other systems. When I finally go the proper cable, it could now see that my C4 had ABS/ABD etc etc.

I don't have any experience with 964's, but I would drop by a shop that has a setup that works and borrow their cable and see if it works with your unit. Then a few minutes with a multimeter and some pen and paper should give you the pinouts and what is missing from your setup. Good Luck!

Reiner,

that's what I'm thinking, the adapter ! What is strange, is that I can read every CU except the ABS one. On the 993 it works. Now as to find a friendly shop willing to leave me alone with the adapter..........that's the downside of doing repairs myself. You usually go to the shop only when you're stuck

Thanks

Alain
