Default QUESTION - Where to buy AN 7/16n x 31/32" Bolt in Houston

Happy Thanksgiving - instead of eating a Turkey, I started with the installation of my DAS rollbar. I picked it up used and found out that it did not come with the 2 bolts for the lower crossbar. The installation instructions specify AN 7/16n x 31/32" as the size.

What does the 'n' stand for? The only sizes I found on McMaster-Carr are 7/16"-14 ... and 7/16"-20 ... There was not any 'n' for the number of threats.

What is the correct number of threats?

Thanks
Erik

Not certain, but sounds like aircraft spec to me: see this AN chart.
AN7 is the diameter, and that length of ~1" (31/32") is shown .... stop by your nearest aerospace supply store tomorrow - go for the turkey today ...

Are you referring to the bolt that mounts the hoop to the crossbar or the bolt to attach the crossbar to the body?

See this thread and contact nollie, his used bar was mising the bolts as well.

It is the bolt that mounts the crossbar to the body. It uses the mounting hole for the belt retractable. I measured the existing bolt and it appears that it is an M10 1.25 pitch Grade 8.8. Should be ok with an M10 25 Grade 8.8 (or 10.9).

If i could see mine i would tell you the grade, I would go for the highest you can get your hands on, it is a roll bar you are securing

Is the OEM bolt an AN7? What is the difference between AN7 and M10 bolts? Are AN7 bolts "better". The pitch of on AN7 7/16 20 is almost the same than M10 1.25.

the M10 is a metric 10mm bolt, 1.25 is the thread. AN usually refers to fittings sizes for fluid transfer connextions (AN stands for Army and Navy, a US military spec originally) There is not a metric equilivant. the AN7 7/16 ~11.1mm so would be too big.

I thought the all bolts etc in a porsche were metric.

I measured the OEM bolt again and the diameter is ~ 11.1 mm which would be closer to 7/16 than 10 metric. This confirms Bill. The AN 7/16 that DAS provides might have a higher grade than the normal 7/16

Exactly!

AN or NAS bolts only. NAS bolts preferred.

Where can I buy AN / NAS spec bolts locally in Houston. I would like to get the car back together this weekend with the correct hardware. I know that I can get it online but this will not do it.

Thanks
