engine mount questions
I'm looking at replacing my engine mounts with stock mounts. The part number on my current mounts is 964 375 049 01. I checked out Vertex and they say that that is a special order part. I'm assuming that I don't have to use that exact same part number? They show 965 375 049 00 for the left side only for my car, 1995 C2. Will this work and is the right side the same part number? Also, will C4 mounts work on a C2 and why are they so much cheaper?

From memory, both sides are identical. C4 mounts will certainly work. A friend and I both ordered new sets of C4 mounts through Sunset and were taken aback by their appearance and lack of stamped part numbers, etc. So we returned those and went with RS mounts. We're both very pleased with the decision.
In an old engine mount thread, someone mentioned that the C4 mounts are rubber filled, while our stock mounts use a fluid-filled bladder to dampen engine movement. If true, this could certainly explain the price difference.

You might also take a look at these wevo mounts: http://www.wevo.com/Products/Chassis...gineMounts.htm they seem to get high praise from some on this list. And on my winter to do list.

Thanks for the feedback. I came really close to getting the wevo blacks but I'm concerned about having the beef up the engine carrier. My car is mostly street but I plan on doing a DE every now and then. Is anyone running the blacks without and strengthened carrier?

I've got blue with no carrier beef up. I've been told it's not needed.

I recently installed the Wevo black on my C4S. Really haven't noticed any difference. Possibly the original C4S mounts are closer to the Wevo than the normal 993 mounts. I should note my suspension is pretty stiff and have supercups, so it is possible I simply can't feel or hear the difference.

The 15+ year old factory mounts on my '94 cab finally went bad....price for a new pair of factory C2 mounts were too pricey here in Hong Kong so I had the mechanic install the stock turbo motor mounts that came out of my TT at 18k miles. The C2, C4, Turbo and RS mounts are interchangeable, but the Turbo use a different length bolt and also a stronger engine carrier.

There was a long thread about engine mounts on one of the UK boards a while back. It was 964 related, but the 993 mounts are interchangable with and cheaper than the 964 parts, plus 996 mounts also work for 964 and 993 and are cheaper still. The lower threads are apparently longer, but they do fit fine. Would have put them on my 964, but had already bought RS mounts ( solid rubber and 80% cheaper ).

I recently looked thru all the threads and went with the RS mounts. From what I read, the RS mounts are closer to the stock mounts. Then the two wevo mounts.....cant remember blue or black is softer. Also read that you should consider strengthening the engine carrier if you go anything stiffer than the RS mounts. ??

Jason,
Go with RS mounts for your needs, especially if you don't want to reinforce the engine carrier. I went with Wevo blacks and reinforced the engine carrier since my car sees more track use and I DO NOT want to see a cracked engine carrier at the track.

I have a 1989 964 an I just put in a set of 993 turbo mounts in my car three weeks ago an they are night an day over the 964 mounts. My car has never run like this an I have had it for ten years. I really should have done this five years ago it really runs like a new car. Vernon.
