Default Alternator fan housing

I am collecting parts for my winter build project, and need an alt/fan assembly.
Does this have to be a 993 one, or are the earlier ones inter changeable? I haven't been able to find this info. Thanks for the help.

Cheers,
Emerald

Do you mean the alternator, the fan, or both?

Alternators usually come with a core charge, so its going to be pricy to source one by itself. If you are worring about the fan b/c you chipped some of the corners off of the blades getting it off the old shaft, then don't worry. Its not going to affect the performance of the fan. (Note: I am sure that someone who spends more time cleaning wtih xenit than driving will disagree with me :P )

a new Bosch alt runs about $250 (no exch.)
According to the parts catalog it fits very late 964s and 993s... that's it.

Hope that helps.

yeah, I was talking about both. I am building an engine, and do not have the alt/fan assembly. I am looking for a used one, and wasn't sure how narrow to make my search.
Thanks for the input. MarkD implies my search will be narrow, which I kind of suspected, but you never know.
I am sure if all I neede was a fan, it would be easier. Seems I recall seeing a photo of some crazy member with fans on the wall.

Cheers,

They show up on e-bay fairly regularly--seem to go for up to $3-400 for a decent one.

(pssst--Andreas--the cap on the spray can, first one on the left on the shelf above your head in the picture, isn't fully seated)
