Default OT: GPS which one to buy

Need GPS recommendation, most bang for your buck. Nothing fancy, eg US only, no phone capabilities etc. I need one that has a good good map, good layout/screen

I am buying this for my wife's xmas gift, so she doesn't call me at work like I am some sort of "OnStar" system every time she gets lost

Tks all

Garmin is a great brand. They have many choices. Good web site. Very good tech & customer service. You can shop prices at places like www.pricescan.com and order over the internet. Cheaper and save sales tax.

+1^. In EU also, Garmin shines. The difference is the Navtek maps which are much superior to their competitor (sorry can't remember name of other mapper)... used by TOMTOM.

FWIW, Garmin was much better than the Merc unit installed in my ex's E series.

Go for the Garmin, my wife used to do the same thing, she also traveled the city daily for work so the 3-5 calls a day asking "how do I get to ......."

Garmin nuvi 755 I trust. Have it in both Porsche and did great road trips. Also use it for business whenever a plane kicks me out at night in some place in the US or Europe and I have to find my hotel etc.

Newegg.com has good prices on them and fantastic shipping. Get the largest screen in the price range you want, it makes a difference. I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 (?) I've had for a couple years. There are better ones now. I think Garmin's web site has a good comparison chart (IIRC).

Nuvi 760 works great but sometimes takes a long time to start up and load the sats.

LOL.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 200W that I got for $175. It's not the most feature-laden model, but it works really well. Andreas has an even nicer one that he paid quite a bit for, so ask him what he has.

I should add that I've had mine for a year and a half and use it every day for work (real estate) and have found it to be excellent. POI's are terrific when I go to track events. Andreas' Garmin has the speed displayed at the corner and am POV that can be rotated at will. Both of those things are nice to have but are not worth an extra $225 to me.
