Default Palo Alto shop for a PPI

Can anyone here recommend a good shop in or near Palo Alto CA for a PPI. What should I expect too pay for an inspection. 96 C4S 70K miles.

Thanks

Drew

Here are a few -- price depends on whether you're going to get a compression/leakdown done.

Mountain View
Heyer Performance
Modderman

Sunnyvale
Real Mean Garage

Go see Bobby Grigsby at http://www.realmeangarage.com (Sunnyvale). Stupid name, I agree, but he does outstanding work.

Ah, that's a nice one -- it's been on the market for a while, so you should have some pricing leverage.

I have seen that one on the market for a while too. Just yesterday I emailed the guy about possibly going to see it. I would have gone to see it but the car is up in Brisbane about 1/2 hour from here and I didn't have time to go yesterday. If it was here in Palo Alto I would have gone.

Looks to be a nice car but I have not really liked the color so hadn't called until now.

Good luck with it...if you like the color it may end up being a great buy.

High Performance House in Redwood city did mine about a month ago. I am in Walnut Creek so won't use them on a regular basis but they were the closest one to my seller's location.

They do charge extra for the leakdown/compression test since it isn't an easy task. $125/hr with approximate 2 hours on a PPI. They do examine the computer to see if they recommend a leakdown. However, with that mileage it probably is a good thing to do. If so, expect around $500 for everything. Larry is the mechanic and he is a real nice guy. They were recommended to me by another shop in San Rafael who had taken the time to educate me on Porsche's and I had hoped to bring it to them but they were too far away and I was too busy to bring it to them.

There number is 1 877 914-4you

I went to Tony Heyer at Heyer Performance when I lived in Palo Alto. Great guy, very honest, lots of experience and thorough.
Also heard good things about RMG but never went there.

+100 on Bob at RMG...he faxed me over about a 3-5 page form of the PPI they went through. I did a PPI plus leakdown/compression for I think just under $400 (+/- 50). Answered a ton of questions and were REALLY hardcore about all the even little stuff they uncovered. I was thoroughly impressed.

+1 for RMG. I had my acr there for several occasions and very happy with the results.

I recently discovered The Renn Shop Inc in Santa Clara. Had the 60k service done there and very happy with this shop also. The owner/mechanic is very detail oriented, took his time to inspect the car and explained all work done on the car. This is a one man show so it takes a little longer to get the car back but his price is very reasonable.

Another satisfied RMG customer.

High Performance House rebuilt the motor on my 914 years ago and I thought they did good work then.
