Okay, it just started a few weeks ago. After cold start-up, I hear a whiring sound like a small vacuum cleaner just behind the firewall. I stops after about 2 mins.
I get that too...I figured it was an electric fan. It has happened since I purchased a month ago and it went through a PPI and passed with flying colors. I have had other German cars and they had electric fans so I thought it was similar. Sorry I don't have a more technical answer. Basically, I'm not worried about it.
on a 95 a noisier-than-normal SAI pump (at startup, of course) can also be clogged SAI ports.
OBDII cars won't throw a code. The air has nowhere to go.
Remove the SAI system on the 95 models (only 95 OBD I). Worthless. Glad it's gone and sitting in a box in the basement. Engine out takes 6 minutes to remove, engine in is about 6 hours. Andreas can elaborate further on removal times. I did mine while the engine was out it also gives you a chance to tinker with other bits and do some cleaning.
Andreas, what did you plug up the connection to the airbox with?
I removed the hose leading to the rear of the airbox, and installed a Yakima load bar end cap with a small amount of Goop. Perfect fit, and completely stealth.
