Default How do you properly close your Porsche lids?

Might be a funny question but I am curious. I stopped by my local body shop that I trust and know. I got some tips on touch up and a good ding guy. As my guy was looking over the car (of course he noticed another ding that I missed) he was surprised that my engine lid didn't have a dent where people put their hands to close it. He commented that it is common to have a dent there because people don't know how to close it properly. Of course, I acted like I knew what he was talking about because I didn't want to look uninformed.

So it got me thinking and I searched and couldn't find an answer. So, how do you "properly" close the trunk and engine lids?

Regards

I lower the lid gently, and then push down on the Porsche badge with the palm of my hand to secure. I saw a vid from Porsche once on this technique...it is floating around here somewhere.

I go off the top turn buckle with a flying elbow into the Porsche crest. Most of the time it works the first time, but sometimes I have to do it twice.

No wait...that's the Lexus...

My own method(s):

Front: Lower it until the latch catches, then put both your palms on the far bottom right- and left-hand corners (by the headlights) and press down to fully-latch/close.

Rear: Lower it until it's 'resting' on the latch. Again, put both palms on the far bottom right- and left-hand corners (by the tail-lights) and press down to fully-latch/close.

Obviously be careful doing this if you sport a huge wedding ring or your wristwatch is one huge 'bling bracelet' or if you have your car-keys / garage-keys / house-keys (handy) in either hand.

I have always been told to push down on the badge to latch. Pushing down on the corners can leave a crease/dent at the badge area from not supporting it when closing. I've seen it before.

In regards to the front - why would you press on the outside edges when the latch is in the center? Also - the video you're referring to is the 993 video that Porsche produced. I push down on the metal edge where it is strongest beneath the badge....

+2. I saw the video too. Can't argue with an official Porsche video.

Before I close up the front, I check and double check that there isn't anything that will stick up or bind before setting the lid down until the safety latch engages, then reach for the corners or front edge with fingertips to press until you hear the latch click.

The rear lid, is gently set down and pressed down to latch to not disturb any of the powered spoiler assembly.

That's how I do it too. The badge may be the "official" way but if you push too hard it will form a nice dent over time. Pressure over the latch where there is additional reinforcement is by far the safest IMHO.
