993 Battery........ Lightweight or Not?
My battery is dead because the car was in the shop for so long and doesent want to keep the charge so im just gonna buy a new one.
I have a aftermarket battery charging system I will probably be hooking up to the battery because I will probably only drive the car 3-6 times a month.
SO what kind of Battery should I buy and why?
Should I go with a $200+ lightweight battery or is that a waste of money and it will leave me stranded?
Or just go with a Regualr battery?
What brand and where do I buy one?

I got my Odyssey 925T (that T is important) from Battery X-Change on Canyon Rd in Beaverton about a year ago for $170. The factory bracket won't work. Add a Rennline bracket for another $100 and you have just spent a ton of money to loose about 11 lbs from the front of the car. There are certainly better things to spend money on, but I've been happy with it. I do plug in my Ctek battery tender when I haven't driven the car for a while, but it hasn't given me any reason to worry about it.

I just replaced my battery with an Interstate 91. It bolted right in, easy. Just make sure they include the vent kit.
I had an Odyssey absorbed glass mat battery in one of my motorycycles, and it was excellent, but I prefer a conventional battery that will (usually) give some warning before it dies. I try to replace them every 5 years, regardless.

I had an Odyssey and it failed after a little over a year. Kept going dead for no discernable reason. Replaced it with an Interstate battery from my local Indy and it's been a no brainer.
Don't waste your money on the Odyssey!

Save your money...
A dead battery is a real pain in the ***, reset radio codes, potential alarm issues, etc. I use a regular battery and a tender....
And besides, having some weight out front and down low, that is not so bad..IMHO of course.

My Sears Die-Hard (6 yrs. old) gave up the ghost last Sept.
Did a search and narrowed down the "new" list to the Odyssey and Optima - yellow or red-top.
Went with the Optima Red top. There was a goup-buy a while back - I think I paid $110 with free shipping. It bolted right in and I've been a happy camper ever since. And yes, it DOESN'T need venting!!!

All this talk of weight saving. Why not just go for a stock battery (Bosch Silverstar here in the UK) and half fill the tank with fuel. 5 or 6 gallons of fuel being carted around must weigh more than the lightweight battery saves. Just my 2c ;-)

I agree that the weight savings is a non-issue. With a heavily rear-biased weight car a few pound(s) in the front is fairly insignificant IMO. I would be more concerned about leakage/overflow possibility. Is it a rare occurrence? Probably, but if you are the unlucky one, then it's really quite a mess. That is why I am giving the Optima a try. If it doesn't last very long, then I will go back and take my chances with a conventional battery.
