Another new guy intro post
Hello all,
I guess it's time to get this intro post out of the way. I've been a Porsche addict for most of my life and after years of dragging my wife to PCA/POC track events to watch and drool I finally bought my first 911. Wanted an air/oil cooled and have always loved the 993 but wasn't sure I could afford one. After looking for a while and driving a couple, I found a one owner 1995 Polar Silver/Black coupe 6 speed with 87k miles. Runs and drives great, interior is very good for age, exterior has a couple of paint blemishes and chips, more of a 10 footer, but I was more concerned with history and solid mechanicals. All books, tools etc. Only aftermarket mods were center console armrest, stereo and replacement front shock inserts ( they are pretty much shot, but rides good for the bad roads where I live) Clean carfax and autocheck.
I drove the car home after a long inspection about 350 miles in the dark and after a few miles thought I had made a big mistake when my wife (following behind) called my cell phone and said there was something wrong with the back of my "new" car. I quickly stopped and got out and looked around and walked back to ask her what the problem was, she said she must have been seeing things and it looked OK now. Drove another mile and got another phone call, it seems there was a "flapper thingy" moving up and down as I sped up and slowed down. The rest of the drive was uneventful and full of smiles (from me, I just couldn't stop smiling).
My plan was to drive it and enjoy it as is for a year or so and then, if it would fit in the budget I had set, maybe do a couple of minor upgrades.... (yeah right, this plan worked for 3 months).
Work done so far: dist. caps and rotors, air filter box mod, flush and bleed brakes and clutch, front and rear hood shocks, pollen filters, spoiler grille wall, fan housing boot, cleaned ICV, refinsh rear wheels, still need to do the fronts.
Work in progress: Plugs, wires, front protection bar, lower control arm bushings (guess what kind ), v/c gaskets (small seeps, no drips but might as well while doing plugs) hyd. lifters (doing v/c gaskets so might as well, 1 has small tick at startup) FD Stage II muffler conversion (ship out monday, very excited)
Work as the slope budget allows: PSS10's, SSK GR, Clear corners w/ bumperette delete, sport seats, and on and on and on.....
Sorry for the lengthy post but I really just want to say Thank You to the members at Rennlist for all of the help and info I have found in your old posts. Is this a great place or what.
A few pictures some from when I purchased the car.
Thanks again,
Erik

One more pic for the east coast guys.
And no I am not getting rid of the basket handle, towel bar or whatever you call it. I happen to like it.

Congrats and welcome to the forum, Erik. You have a beautiful looking example. I love the color. I've always thought that the lighter colors really show off the lines and curves of the 993 body, , the best. I have a black car, and love it to death, but I really like Arctic & Polar silver on these cars.
Hope you enjoy many carefree, happy miles in your new ride. As you know, these cars are meant to be driven.

Wow. Nice, clean, well-maintained car. That's the way to do it. Man, that interior looks new, and for black, that's hard to do! Well done.
