Default How many yrs before replacing tires?

My track tires (Michelin sport cups) are approx 6yrs old and have not been used for the past 4yrs (yes, kids and other things have changed my priorities lately!).

Are these tires still good? They were stored outside (stacked on top of each other), somewhat protected from the weather but most likely got some afternoon sun on them daily.

My vote is these tires are toast. I'm actually in the process of selling my wheels and tires and I've informed the prospective buyer the condition of the wheels and tires. I just want to know for my own good whether these tires could still be driven or it's not worth to take the chance.

Selling 17" OEM 5-spoke wheels and the tires (50% tread) for $600 for your reference. Seems like a fair price (wheels are definitely not concourse) and prospective buyer seems to be aligned with this pricing.

Thanks for your inputs!

As sticky track tires I would say they are toast, UV takes its toll... I would guess they would still stick better than street tires, but nothing like new.... Id still probably take them out and burn off the last bit of tread though.

I have a boat trailer that sits around outside most of the time w/o a boat on it. The boat is a 2001 and I had to replace the tires this year since a big crack developed and appeared to be close to popping. I figure the tires were about 8 years old.

Thanks guys! Good info.

If it were me, I would be nervous to take these tires out for aggressive driving and I will convey this message (and the info from the Tire Rack) and let the buyer make the decision. In the end, I priced these wheels/tires combo assuming the person is only buying the wheels. Tires are a "freebie" if you will...

Funny thing is the tires look pretty good, but that's not an accurate way to tell the status of these tires. Plus these are track tires, so even more caution needs to be taken.

Gracias!!

Even if stored in a garage in a dark, cool corner, after about two years, three at most, track tires start getting hard as rocks. Not worth the risk.
